I agree Ross and Rachel were well overhyped, but for me, the ultimate Friends ship was always Mondler. David and Patrick have top spot for me on the best Sitcom relationships. But I've never seen Parks.

2022-08-17 16:11:57 +0000 UTCI agree about the Parks comparison. I think what gets me is the "safe" feeling of these relationships. It's rare seeing television relationships be so healthy. They're too often portrayed as too perfect with no fighting or conflict, or too much fighting and conflict and toxicity. With Patrick and David, they truly see one another as equals. There's a mutual respect for one another and it doesn't feel like someone is always trying to get the upper hand over the other like way too many other TV relationships. It feels solid. It feels safe. They show fighting and conflict without it being some big thing. They show how to healthily navigate things. Even if there's bumps, there's communication and resolution. Oh gosh, I was just thinking of a show the other day that really impressed me in that regard and now I can't think of what it was. But yeah, this is where I'm at with Patrick and David. There's a safe feeling when watching them, same as in Parks, that this is something solid and healthy but still realistic and attainable as well.

There's a bit of a warm fuzziness to both of those shows as well that I think may play into those feelings. I do love one relationship in Ted Lasso quite a bit and if we go really old school, I loved Paul and Jaime's relationship on Mad About You.

It's as if some part of him is convinced that Patrick, given a chance, would leave him for someone better, and he wants to convince himself that it won't happen, without thinking clearly enough to understand that he's creating the conditions where it could happen. Luckily Patrick, while flattered by the attention (a new thing for him), wasn't ultimately interested in such exploration, and now they're more committed to each other than ever.
