Going to preface this by saying this is all morally wrong: I mean the cheating and age gaps alone. First, I thought he was entering medical school and if not, wouldn't also be 22 having just become a doctor? Just watched it again and he's a MED STUDENT, so yes he's probably under 22 years old. Also, learned from somewhere else that the age of consent is lower there for some reason so not legally wrong weirdly

Ugh, I wish they had made him a older-looking student, or even just a slightly older guy in his first year of college or something because the two actors are great on-screen together. But they made it super creepy with the teacher-student dynamic. It's really disturbing. Imo, Wren is EVEN WORSE though, like for age alone. He said he went to Oxford so we're led to believe he did all of his training in the UK... Let's do the disturbing math. School in the UK is done at 16. Then he went to Oxford which is a *6* year medical school program. After that, he would have had to complete specialised training to work in a hospital, which all in all takes around 8 years alone. DUDE IS AT LEAST PUSHING 30, realistically, but lets be generous for TV land and say he's 27. That's 5 years older than Ezra who would be 22 (I think) seeing as how he just graduated college? But very few of the fans notice the age difference between Wren and Spenser. Maybe it's because Ezra and Aria are so obviously creepy, Wren skates by mostly unnoticed? Idk. BOTH of these men should be in jail. But Wren shouldn't even get yard time.

2022-08-18 05:10:40 +0000 UTCYeah I used to love PLL as a kid. It came out when I was in 6th grade (so I was only 12), but I was obsessed with the show and a huge Ezria shipper. As I’ve rewatched the series, I feel disgusted (and almost violated myself that I used to find their relationship sweet). It’s crazy because now I’m 23 years old instead of 12, looking at this show at a different lens, and there are so many predatory relationships being romanticized. PLL was originally a book series (I never read it), but from what I remember of the descriptions, the book has these similar predatory relationships, but it actually discusses how wrong they are. But I have always loved the idea of -A and the crime, which is why I kept coming back to series as I got older.

2022-08-17 13:24:35 +0000 UTCi was discussing this last week with a friend who's doing a rewatch. i don't think the people behind the show (creator, producers, writers, directors) think or intend to suggest these situations are fine, great, wonderful. i think they (generally) find it creepy and intend for us to find it creepy too. but i also wish they would have made the point more explicitly (versus presenting the facts and leaving the audience to draw that conclusion ourselves), because i kind of worry about younger people (girls in particular) watching things like this or twilight, and seeing dynamics depicted that are NOT OKAY, but maybe not having enough life experience to recognize that, and getting the incorrect impression that this is normal, or romantic, or that it IS okay.

2022-08-17 13:07:20 +0000 UTCand wren had the decency to feel badly about taking the barn, when melissa clearly didn't, and he even told spencer he was sorry about it. plus, he speaks to her like she's a person and shows interest in what she's reading, and what she thinks. i don't find it so difficult to see why spencer would be charmed by him from even this quick first impression. and i absolutely blame wren for any inappropriate interaction that follows, because he's the adult in this situation. ditto ezra, with aria. he's the adult, and also her teacher, which adds another gross layer/power dynamic to the situation. i'll definitely have more to say about that as the story unfolds.

Everyone has their own opinions on certain storylines, but I think it's a blast all the way through. Yeah, the Aria/Ezra thing is gross, as is Spencer and her sister's boyfriend (Wren). There are a lot of problematic age gaps in this show, and it keeps coming. I don't mind these kinds of things in fiction, but it does bother me when it's a show aimed at teenagers who will find this romantic, not creepy.

2022-08-17 05:14:39 +0000 UTCSuch an impactful pilot. I love how it introduced each girl and contrasted their personalities and family lives. I loved how it just hooks you right in. You instantly want to know what happened and what twists and turns it's going to take you on. I remember what an iconic show this was, how everyone was racing to chat online about theories etc. after each episode. Also about the Spencer/Wren thing, I think she tends to take a backseat to Melissa in so many ways. She struggles to be seen and heard when Melissa takes up such a huge priority to her family (I still am pissed about the barn thing) and here comes Wren who is older and listens to her and entertains her and I think she just really gravitated towards that.

From a story perspective, it balanced each girl's individual life and personal secrets and their family dynamics, an insight into friendship dynamics with and without Ali, as well as the main storyline with Alison's murder and the ever-mysterious -A. And, in my opinion, it did all of those things well. And it also kept you wanting more. The mentions of The Jenna Thing was very well sprinkled throughout. The Spencer/Wren thing I think is just a first impression/attraction thing. He was kind to her and was willing to entertain her snarkiness. And she liked that.

I don’t mind it all myself. Sure it can get hard connecting everything for 7 seasons but they did a good job. Don’t think too hard later, may be little plot holes here or there but just enjoy the ride.
