Yeah, this really pissed off a lot of fans, myself included. The sad thing is that would be the reaction in real life. When guys are attacked/molested people don't care as much as they should. This episode really knocked Sam and Artie down on my list of characters, and weirdly Kitty higher up. I wish the writers would've put the whole catfish thing to rest because I think that Kitty and Ryder could've ended up being a cute couple and allowed Kitty to open up more.

2022-08-23 03:25:01 +0000 UTCThe thing with Sam and Artie's reactions is that it's not crazy for teenage boys to react that way. It's super upsetting, but realistic for the girls to be the ones to tell them off and defend Ryder. While I do think they could've done a better job of bringing it back into the story to address how they reacted, I also understand how they might've thought to treat it like it might be treated in real life, with the world moving on around them. I like the conversation between Ryder and Kitty at the end where she tells him the catfish is a projection. You can tell she's super hurt that she shared something so personal with him and he blew her off. It's the kind of development we needed with her. At the Ballet is a good song, but it definitely went on for too long. And because Glee covers are usually a little over 2 minutes in the show, it felt like it went on for an eternity. I will say that I did like the episode just for the acting from Ryder and Kitty's actors.

2022-08-23 02:43:01 +0000 UTCat the ballet is one of my favorites from chorus line, along with paul's monologue. i'll never forget seeing it performed live sitting behind a shuttle of elderly people who had been bussed in for the event. i was dealing with some very homophobic things at my school by adults and people close to that age bracket and when paul's monologue hit, so many of those people in front of me were wiping tears from their eyes. i still get goosebumps thinking about it. steven, i know you have an appreciation for things like this so maybe one day if not for the channel just for your own interest, check out a chorus line. the movie even has young emily gilmore in it!

2022-08-23 02:41:58 +0000 UTCAlso, might have been too late when I mentioned it on the previous episode, but 4x19 was Cory Monteith's last episode and unfortunately, we will not be seeing any more of him on Glee due to his struggle with addiction, which led him to admit himself into rehab during the final parts of filming for this season. He passed away in the hiatus between Season 4 and Season 5.

2022-08-23 02:22:15 +0000 UTCThe Sam/Artie/Ryder thing still pisses me off 'til this day, especially because they got not enough blowback on their awful comments. Like, seriously... that would usually warrant some sort of disciplinary action. That would have been the perfect opportunity to send Sam and Artie to the guidance counselor, or to anyone that could make them understand why their comments were heinous. I love At the Ballet in the original context of the song (in the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line") but it really really doesn't work here. They used too much of the speaking parts and it went on for much too long. I imagine if there was an episode with SJP, that she needed more to do... which is when this song came in. Otherwise, it could have been much shorter. Also, they dragged out this Ryder catfish storyline for MUCH to long.. but more on that later.
