Growing up Christian, I saw the connection between Alsan and God, but I assumed it was the writer paying homage to his interpretation of God in a fantasy world lol. My parents were actually the ones who bought the book series and then the movies for us (pastors kids). I had no idea until recently reading comments online that it was controversial. I've noticed allegories to spirituality appear in other works of fiction - like the song "He Lives in You" from The Lion King 2 and Avatar the Last Airbender (apparently, some of the spirits in Avatar were referenced from real religions). Idk, referencing religion within context and not mocking it in any way shouldn't be seen as blasphemy. But that's how I feel

2024-10-05 22:50:28 +0000 UTCThe professor's story is the first book of the series, The Magician's Nephew. Not sure why they skipped it. Love the score and the CGI and effects are so good. Tilda Swinton was great as the white witch. Growing up watching this my little brother and I had to try turkish delight. So disappointing. I guess it's not north American taste. xD

2024-01-15 19:48:48 +0000 UTCAs a Christian I actually never really picked up anything watching it for the first time but then I went to read the books and about the Author and C.S Lewis is actually a Christian man and let’s just say reading the books you start to connect with what I knew in the bible and it actually make sense. I would go into detail but it’s so much to explain. But Christian or not others may connect to it in a different way which is definitely okay. Though I definitely admire this franchise. Love the reaction

2023-11-07 10:43:23 +0000 UTCGrowing up I had no idea this was a Christian based film, the child me just liked the idea of talking animals and a fantasy world, as I’m sure was the same with a lot of children, yes C.S Lewis did centre the series heavily around Christianity but I only got that when I was older.

As for the Golden Compass, the first movie/book isn’t as heavy handed in its anti-religious agenda. But it’s very clear by the second book. I don’t have a dog in this fight but I see why Christians do. The writing isn’t subtle. I love the series though.

2023-08-21 04:45:05 +0000 UTCi forgot what a comfort movie this was of mine. can't wait to watch it this autumn with some cider or something. i'm not very religious much any more but i forgot how truly traumatizing that scene before aslan's death is. i was bawling like it was my first time seeing it. the cgi held up very nicely in most parts and i really loved the characters again. seeing them again was like old friends. what a fun throwback!
