What I've always loved about this show is how complex and real the characters feel. They aren't one note at all. Grandparents take shots and have clear defensive body language, but also take time to show respect when it's needed. (ie grandpa telling Ephraim not to disrespect dad despite he himself doing it). And even moments with Edna and Grandma were very nice. The sass lol When it comes to New York though, Dr. Brown can't let Ephraim go. He's all but saying "I don't want to deal with him anymore and this is easier for me" and Ephraim will feel that in his subconsious even if this is the better option. It's not supposed to be easy raising kids. And anyone who feels it should be probably isn't a good parent. You don't just send a kid away if they get 'too difficult'. No easier to way to make a kid feel alone than that. Great reaction. Very great characters.
