Okay, for Penny's reaction it's important to remember she feels really stupid compared to Leonard, and the guys a lot. Remember how she hid the fact she was taking college courses from Leonard? And she got really pissed when they first started hanging out as friends when Leonard made her feel stupid by asking her to spell "asthma". So I think that overreaction is that reason. She felt really stupid for falling for a real wedding, and felt Leonard was pushing it, and making her feel even worse about it. Even if that wasn't his intent. He was frustrated, but I think she took his frustration as "God now he really must think I'm stupid."
