Grey's Anatomy "As We Know It" 2x17 Reaction (Steven)

I know I’m late. Finally catching up. I just wanted to say that I figured the music often mirrors how the characters feel more than how the writers want the audience to feel. And I kind of like that

That's a spoiler

Derek literally visited Mer at the end just to look at her for all of two seconds and say "you almost died today". He was gonna leave if Mer hadn't stopped him with a "I can't remember our last kiss." What was the point of that, Derek? Lol

I don’t think baileys husband started coding because of what Christina said. I think he was going to code regardless but it was done right after her saying that was to make the scene more dramatic.

I feel like the music adds to the complexity of how the audience is meant to feel. From a storytelling perspective, it’s lazy to write “bad things=bad people”. That’s boring honestly lol I don’t think the show needs to spoonfeed the audience how to feel every episode. Just because they play a love song doesn’t mean that you as the audience have to swoon. Music also conveys the mood of a scene, and sometimes the emotions of the characters. Music isn’t necessarily a check mark of how the audience “should” feel lol From a writing standpoint, it’s more interesting to have your audience be conflicted—To have them think “ugh, I probably shouldn’t like this, but why do I still like it?” That’s more fun to play with as a one hour TV primetime drama lol If all the characters behaved how they should, and people only made the right choices, this show would’ve lasted 2 episodes and that’s it. No one would want to watch. No one wants to watch perfect people. Humans don’t only root for the textbook good guys. People root for the complicated characters, even when they fuck up. People still root for them. That last scene between the two of them is more about him just wanting to see her with his own eyes and know that she’s okay. I’m not the biggest fan of their relationship in these early seasons, but I don’t think anyone who likes them is rooting for her to be the side chick. I feel like they were more likely rooting for them to come together fully and deal with their baggage and decide to be a couple.

i think that's something so important about meredith that gets overlooked a lot and i have to admit i overlooked it to when i was watching the show the first time. it's kind of a shame how so much of her story is derek focused when she as a character has so much more depth to give

The worst bomb squad. Also as you can see Meredith doesn't have much regard for her own life

Allison

Yes!! I can't not cry George and Bailey were what I cared about most this episode lol ❤️❤️

no matter how many times i've seen this episode, george and bailey make me sob every time. i can't even imagine what that meant for her to have him there. the way he jumped up on the bed behind her to hold her...that whole bit always gives me goosebumps. THIS is greys anatomy!

Thanks for posting both!!

Marissa
