I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Liberty was a virgin and JT was her first. With how strict her father seems to be and how he only wants her to focus on her studies I would say she had little knowledge of the basics for prepping about sex. The same thing happened with Manny during her first time with Craig and she assumed he would have a condom, Liberty assumed JT would know the right size to get. I think Liberty feels dumb about the situation and like she is the one that should have been in charge of the prep work therefore internally blaming herself while outwardly blaming JT.
