the mommies expected her to be a little girl forever for their little girls. but miley was growing up (and that meant their own daughters were too which was NOT a convo they wanted to have) here she is singing about not being able to be tamed (a horrific thing to conservative parents) and having a bunch of guys and having her own voice etc. all those things were a threat to the moms who wanted to keep their daughters in their own metaphorical cages and clip their own metaphorical wings. they didn't want their daughters "getting ideas" that they had a voice too. and here was miley encouraging it. to put it into perspective. i went to a very small town, southern, catholic high school. one girl's mom boasted to the other mothers that she went through her daughters CD collection (linkin park and other music that made kids feel empowered and less alone) and made her watch as she stomped on every single CD in a collection that was over 200 CDs. and she was proud she'd done that. boasted to the other mothers even. it's all about control. if music gives kids an outlet, they feel they're losing that control.

And almost all of them break out of the Disney mold by DRASTICALLY changing their vibe because I think there are a lot of rules they had to follow for a long time. I think the only HUGE Disney star who continued having a "clean image" for a long time after is Hillary Duff. And maybe Raven, I think? The suburban mums just got so upset because the MV has Miley dancing in "scantily clad clothes" and there was "sexy dancing". It's literally nothing to what we're used to today but even just 10 years ago, it was such a shock to these conservatives who saw her as corrupting their kids who followed her from Disney. They wanted her to make wholesome music I guess lol. I really liked this song a lot and was obsessed with the MV for a long time when it came out. Tbh I never noticed the "sexy dancing" or whatever. I was always so entranced by the music and the wings HAHAHAHAHAHA

I think a lot of people don't like it because they were so used to how Miley acted on Hannah Montana and the innocent songs she sung on the show. So many people stopped liking her when she started making music like this. It sucks, she was/is thriving and make such good music. Thanks for the reaction, more Miley soon?
