Reputation was my favorite taylor era. And this song goes so hard live! I saw her in concert for Reputation and it was crazy. All the songs in Reputation goes so hard live.

To give context: Kanye had that infamous phone call with Taylor in 2016 where he claimed she gave approval for the lyrics to his song Famous (there was a line in there about how he thinks he and Taytay might have sex because he "made that b**ch famous". The MV for that, which I never watched but saw a still of for that VILE scene of the naked wax figures of...Gawd, I still cannot believe that exists. I can't believe an actual human being thought of that concept and a whole damn team agreed it was a good idea ๐คฎ๐คฎ๐คฎ). Taylor said she never approved the lyrics and Kim released footage "proving" Kanye was right. They got people to REALLY hate on Taylor. She was getting the most awful hate messages online. Talk shows were making fun of her. "I hate Taylor" or something like that was trending. Taylor was so affected by it that it gave her depression and she disappeared from public for a year. Literally no one saw her physically. Reputation was her comeback album and DAMN it was incredible. She released it amidst all the hate and her fans stuck by her. It was only in 2020 that the unedited footage of that phone call proved that Taytay was right all along. And Kimye were still not backing down. They still claim Taylor was the bad guy...๐๐๐

She dabbled in every style she fancies and excels each time. A few of the songs in Reputation were written about the Kanye/Kim K stuff. This isn't one of them as it IS a love song, essentially telling the person she's with that if they were to be with her, they'll have to endure a lot thanks to all the shit people like to throw at her but they'll get through it together. The MV itself is super cool. Only Taylor can put so much meaning intona cyberpunk style video. It really is like she's killing off her old self and breaking free to show the world what she's made of (my interpretation of it anyway). And yeah, you're right, she wrote this song. It wasn't written for her. Taylor just likes to experiment with different sounds and genres

2023-09-24 23:43:29 +0000 UTCit's kind of a love song hahaha. def doesn't sound like it, but if you look at the lyrics it's basically like asking a new love interest are you ready for this? like she sees all the potential with this new person, but knows it's gonna be a war to date her. like they will be followed and written about and go through a lot to be with her. the chorus is all sweet saying like I can see all the beautiful things we could do and be but are you ready hahaha. it's the first track off reputation and it goes the hardest. this is def the reputation vibe in a way - like more rap/r&b flows, but then the rest of the album is more accessible and still has plenty of pretty/fun pop songs. I've never fully been able to fathom the music video meaning. I'm sure it has one but it also just seems like a flex by the director. this album is kind of about killing her past self so I do think you're on to something there.
