This was the first episode of this I saw because the discussion about the hat in the diner was in the commercial and made me laugh. Odious means extremely unpleasant. I saw Richard’s annoyance being more about Emily kinda forcing Rory to go with him, plus Richard probably had flashbacks of what it must have been like if he had tried to take Lorelai at that age.
