I don't think that moment with Pacey's father was earned. I hate this trope that parents are just bullying their children cuz they mean well. If he believes Pacey will do great things or college might not be for him then he can say that without putting him down. He says mean things to make himself feel better not to help his son. I don't think you get to be the negative voice in your child's head and say it's cuz you love them. Especially when he's pushing Pacey needs to join the army to be a man. "School's not for you, PTSD is." Nah that ain't it.
