Steven loving Addison is something we all saw coming haha

I think even if this counts as a seperation that is still his wife and he clearly hasn't dealt with it emotionally bc he just ran away. Also yes he should've told Mer.

I feel like I should say this again: there is a lot on this show that is unprofessional and it's just gonna get wilder from here on out. be prepared!

Yup, a separation is considered as a step in breaking off from a marriage. It can be informal or even made legal. People separate and never ever get divorced, and are not bound by the rules of fidelity in that marriage at that point. What Derek did wrong was not disclosing his situation to Meredith from the get-go.

I can see where you’re coming from with Derek—from a legal standpoint, yes he’s technically having a relationship with Meredith while he is married. For me personally, the act of leaving is essentially ending the relationship, so I don’t see what he’s been doing as cheating. Obviously he’s still married, but paperwork doesn’t have to be filed for a relationship to be done on a personal level. There are couples, even in real life, who have broken up—fully separated emotionally and personally, lived apart, dated other people, etc. all while still technically being married on paper. I have a friend whose parents lived together for a time after breaking up before eventually divorcing. They lived totally separate lives but still under the same roof. In that time they were obviously broken up—they just hadn’t signed the paper work. So I don’t think Derek filing the papers is the only way to say he’s done with the relationship (idk if he has or not) the fact that he moved across the country, got a full time job, bought himself some land, and started a whole new relationship is still a pretty definitive break up to me. Where I do think he messed up was not telling Meredith. They’ve been going out for at least a couple of months and the fact that he never brought it up once is inexcusable.

I can't stan Addison completely at this point cuz she did a very shitty thing to her husband, but I applaud her not being petty to Meredith and even standing up to that incredibly nosy out of line patient. She owned up to this situation being her own doing so that's good. I completely agree that this is all Derek's fault. People are 100% going to NOT know or care about the full story and just latch onto the fact that Meredith slept with her married attending and think of her as a homewrecker when she's completely innocent. All she knew was she met a cute boy at a bar and slept with him. He could have come clean at any point in time and he didn't. Did NOT get the draw of "McDreamy"

It is personal for the chief cause he was close with Meredith’s mother and watched her grow up. But that doesn’t excuse what Derek has done

When you said, "I feel like this season is gonna be more chaotic", I wanted to scream, "you have no idea!" Also, I agree with you on Derek. If he had asked for a divorce, maybe I could excuse his relationship with Meredith, but he just left without any resolution, so that's a no for me. I hated Derek after this, and he never grew on me.

i love this episode so much. we're getting a LOT of character growth and i don't want to presume, but i think you're starting to get more into the show now that we're seeing that. the characters feel more human. one scene that remains one of my favorites all these years is addison standing up for meredith. she didn't have to do that. she wasn't obligated to. but she did. idk, i just really like addison a lot for that. i really like addison in general. what she did to derek is of course not good and is really screwed up. but i appreciate her as a character. i love that we're getting alex's growth too. and i love izzy so much. she's so sweet and kind but she's not afraid to speak up and put him in his place. i think she's someone whose opinion he respects a lot. he doesn't want her to see him as being inhuman. i think that got to him a lot. burke frustrates the hell out of me. he persues christina knowing how she is but then gets pissy at her when she is how she is. it's like he wants her but not her. it feels confusing and weird and i feel sorry for her. i LOVE meredith and christina so much. we're finally starting to get to see that friendship blossom and it's one of my favorite things about the whole series, them being each other's person.
