I think Zoe was on her way once her father really believed that she was still around. I think she really just needed to know that she was loved for herself and not as a twin before she could go into the light. I believe Melinda just calls it her gift. I've seen this show hundreds of times and the deaths still get me. Grandma really being dead was still a gut punch. JLH really emotes really well, you feel everything she feels.
