The games get lots of references, but it's not a good idea to base the premise of the vaults on any individual game. It's something that isn't hidden, especially if you have played multiple games, or that they wouldn't expect you to know coming into the show - every single vault has it's own thing, many were designed to be some kind of different experiment on human life while trapped (ranging from mild silly experiments, to complete nightmares), so you couldn't apply what a vault was like or how they behaved in the game to the show for an explanation. Every vault will be producing unique types of people from very strange, to insane, to relatively normal but a little odd.
