The debate should have been about celebrating rory, they should have gone out to celebrate, but christopher as always shows up and takes over and The day becomes about sherry and him. Ofcource he should have mentioned bringing someone, but he could have showed his daughter that she was important to him by showing up alone.

Sorry but Chris not being introduced to max isn’t the same as sherry. In theory it should be but up until recently Chris has not really been in Rory’s life so it wouldn’t really make sense to make it a point to involve Chris in that relationship in the same way that Lorelai would be involved if Chris brought a woman around Rory.

long comment incoming but christopher always leaves me with a lot to say lol lorelai definitely feels like christopher is her "what if..." and that's a hard thing to get past, especially given how he was behaving recently towards her. she has always had this fantasy that she, rory, and christopher could be a happily ever after. and i can't fault her for that. but i also don't think it's realistic. they have a child together, there's always going to be that connection there. plus they were who each other was closest to during family drama in their youth. there's always going to be that connection. but they aren't the same people they were in their youth and no amount of connection or "what if..." fantasy can make the wrong person be right. christopher isn't right for lorelai, nor lorelai christopher. maybe this new relationship is what's right for him. through no fault of her own, lorelai just isn't someone he's willing to change for. but this new relationship and woman is. so good for him for finding that i guess. i know it sucks for lorelai but she deserves better and ultimately so does rory. i hate that the show keeps bringing him around in this way. i would rather they just let lorelai and christopher just acknowledge who they were and who they are, and the past be the past. it's unfair for lorelai and his new flame to kind of play this back and forth.
also this is a random thought but i will always and forever think this show had two different ideas of christopher. at the start, this playboy rich boy who never wanted to settle down or care, who'd flit in and out of their lives. and that was all fine when he wasn't an actual character we had to see on screen. once they brought him on screen, the actor didn't match with my vision of him, and in a lot of ways it felt like the christopher we finally were allowed to see on screen wasn't the christopher we'd been told about. it was just very weird. and he's always felt like a weird character in this way, like they never knew what to do with him, how much to show, to make him a new old flame or leave him in the past etc. and it's always a little jarring lol

brian, christopher was the person who lorelai was calling at her bachelorette party with max. even unconsciously, she has been holding onto hope, and it makes sense to me because he gives so many mixed signals. he came to stars hollow out of nowhere, and the two of them wound up sleeping together because of how high the emotions were running at that disastrous dinner. he then immediately proposes to her in her kitchen after not bothering to visit her or their daughter at their house for 16 years, and she turns him down because he doesn’t know how to be responsible and be a part of a legitimate family. lorelai even tells rory that “i will probably always love him” (i don’t think she really knows what it means to be in love yet, but we’ll get more into that as the series progresses). then, the next time he showed up, he got his life together—he got a job, got a family car, and finally became the man lorelai would say “yes” to. during that whole time when rory was coming out, he was really leading her on, acting flirty and forward and not telling her until the last possible second that he had a new girlfriend. lorelai thought he matured for her and rory, but he matured for himself and sherry. not to mention that lorelai’s parents have been hammering christopher into her head for 16 years, trying to get her to think he’s the solution to all of her problems. there was a lot of evidence through the show so far that alluded to lorelai still having buried feelings for him, so this didn’t come out of left field to me.
