Charmed "Hell Hath No Fury" 4x3 Reaction

Comments

Everyone grieves in their own way, and however someone grieves it is OKAY and not for anyone to judge. It is not weird at all. Anger is in fact one of the stages of grief, and I for sure felt angry at my dad when he passed when I was 23. It is not rational at all but grief and death is not supposed to be. Anyone, after going through such a trauma you grow up and realize that how someone reacts to the death of a loved one is personal to them, and it’s not for anyone else to judge. 🖤

When people were suggesting you might want a break during live stream because of Prues death and the whole replacement shock, that's when we said to watch this episode before you do, since it's still so heavily saturated in what happened during premiere. So if you returned to this, it would be too annoying I think, the following episodes don't sting so bad. 😆 but yeah nothing big happened this episode, except Pipers grief and awesome acting. Grief definitely causes anger in many people, it becomes so consuming if unchecked that they actually get angry at the dead person, especially if the death was in some say their fault.

So I really love your Charmed reactions generally! But I think maybe it might be a good idea for you to take a break for a couple of weeks or something just to adjust to the new dynamic, and come back to show with hopefully a fresh perspective? I fully understand your frustration with the Prue story, as I was watching the show when it originally aired, and it sucked not having Shannen around anymore! I think most of us were pissed about it. But, if you completely close off from even WANTING to see good things in this show, then you’re going to miss out on some genuinely wonderful storylines coming up in the next 5 seasons. I don’t want you to stop the show or anything lol it’s one of my favorites to watch here!! I just know from your reactions to other shows, that when something happens that you don’t like, you tend to zero in on that specific part, and it usually takes away any open mindedness and objectivity you have when watching. I’m not saying you’re required to love this episode (that is, of course, your prerogative and entirely subjective) but it is generally seen by audiences and critics as well written and a showcase that Charmed isn’t just forgetting about Prue. She’s 100% still a massive influence on the story and the sisters. And Paige is so extremely different from Prue that it put a lot of people at ease back then about the “replacement” concept with her character. But I kind of feel like, from watching this, that you went in wanting it to suck so you were checked out for most of it and the emotional beats didn’t hit you like they did with most people who watched it for the first time. Just my two cents. Still a big fan of your reactions :)

Yep, he knows the age order!

The reason a lot of us wanted you to at least watch this episode is because it is considered to be a top episode, especially coming from such a shocking season premiere. It shows how everyone is still grieving and how it affects them differently. Just because they smile (like Piper did at the start of the episode) doesn't mean they are okay. @Dannielle already explained the anger thing, but the power and emotion you get from the scene of Piper yelling at Prue’s grave is HEARTBREAKING (this is an iconic scene in the show; most people cried while watching this). I also feel like this episode answered a major concern of yours. Prue’s death isn't just a one-and-done situation. She WILL be talked about because she was an essential part of the show/family. They don't speak about Prue like she's some dark omen; they say her name so much because they miss her, and she was their sister. The girls are still grieving her in their own way. Also, even if you weren’t interested, I feel like the show did a good job of showing us that Paige is an actual person with a past. She didn’t just come out of nowhere, which I feel typically happens with a replacement character. In the previous episode, we learned that she doesn’t drink, hearing a bit of her troubled backstory with the line, “I used to have a problem with certain substances.” In this episode, we learned that she truly loved her adoptive parents, to the point where she was the only one (the person whom Piper was the least close to) who helped Piper pinpoint her pain and told her it was alright to feel this way. She has a past that hasn't just been dumped onto us in the first few episodes; these are things we are slowly learning about her. I also really love the relationship between Paige and the other sisters. Although Phoebe does care about Paige, she doesn’t have a lot of time to sit and chat with her. Partially because Piper was running around killing any demon she could find but also because Phoebe is grieving as well. As with the flow Phoebe is being, she still can't fully open up to Paige yet. On the other side, I also love Piper and Paige’s relationship. To make it short, Piper really doesn’t care about Paige. She can’t acknowledge Paige as a sister yet, which is entirely understandable! To Piper, Paige is a complete stranger who was dropped at their doorstep. Even with everything that happened in this episode, Piper is still a bit awkward with Paige. It shows that she needs time to come to love her in the same way she does with Phoebe and Prue. That’s also why the end of the episode is a bit hopeful by showing that Piper finally acknowledged Paige as a sister while admitting that it will take a while for her to truly love her. I could go on and on about the fantastic writing of this episode, but I feel like it was a bit lost on you. Again - since a lot of us went through this, I am very understanding of your frustration. I do feel that when you retroactively look back at these episodes, you’re going to appreciate them way more. At the same time, I feel like you’re not going to get over this hump if you don’t try. I would low-key rather you go into an episode, at least trying to find part of the plot you DO enjoy, even if you don’t like the situation, than just sitting there blank-faced and focusing on the part you hate. I agree with the Paige scenes being corny, but I feel like your focus on that (and her) took away from the greatness of this episode. This is considered to be one of the better seasons, so I genuinely recommend not to continue until you are in the headspace to try. You don’t have to like Paige right away, none of us are expecting you to, but there are so many other aspects, besides her, that are amazing this season!

Adrianne

He does realize that Prue was the oldest sister right?

Trevon

Look is it logical for Piper to be mad at Prue for dying, obviously not, but grief isn't logical. Prue was the only constant in her life, the one person she could rely on and now she's gone. Piper feels scared, alone and abandoned, she feels like Prue abandoned her. We know that it's not Prue's fault and Piper knows that it's not Prue's fault but it's how she feels. She's in pain and Piper deals with her pain with anger, it's part of her process. I just can't fathom watching that scene with Holly's performance and not be swept up in it.
