Guess I related to Meredith's story the most, having an absent father who did have other families (yes I did say families. Plural). I did hate my father. Now I'm just indifferent. Whenever I see absent parental storylines in shows and the kids don't react with anger, I'm confused. I know people react to situations differently but for me, I was always "you don't want me, I don't want you" lol. I think Molly (the sister we saw today) said she's 22 and the younger sister. That means the one in medical school is...what, 23 at the youngest? I forgot when they said Thatcher left Ellis and Meredith but if he left when Mer was 8, that was maximum 5 years for him to fall for this other woman and start a new family with her. It's not that he was stupid to not believe he had a chance in court against Ellis. It was that he didn't want to try. He knew the abusive woman Ellis was and was perfectly happy to leave Mer there to take the abuse as long as he was away from it. He didn't bother trying when he had this new woman's support. He didn't bother trying when he held his 2nd baby in his arms and "thought about Mer a lot" and, if he was so scared of facing Ellis in court, he didn't even try when Mer was 18 and Ellis has no say at all. Thatcher didn't try because he didn't want to. I felt so sad for Meredith when Molly was talking about being his little girl. It's just the KNOWING that you're not wanted by the person who helped even bring you into this world...no wonder Mer's so effed up. Side note, appreciate Meredith's vow of celibacy and did NOT appreciate Derek being her "friend". Give her some space, damn. Addison brought her humour alongside Meredith, though. And she looked gorgeous as always.
