i think you can do either the SAT or ACT but one or the other is still required for university. My cousins just had their first years of college and spent all their high school years doing SAT prep courses. i took the ACT a long while ago but not sister sister long ago lol and spent years doing the prep courses for that as well. such a stressful time! even transferring from one undergrad to another in recent years had to submit my scores to the university i was transferring to. i actually love that it shows it in older shows. academics seemed to be taken more seriously in older shows. tests and studying seemed more focal than today where a lot of shows rely on "lol teacher annoying" kinda of tropes and humor
