iCarly "iDate a Bad Boy" 2x16 Reaction

Comments

I am very late to the party on this episode because I wanted to avoid the cringe and just how outdated this episode was. But also, this wasn't filmed in front of a live studio audience, I don't think? So, the audience reactions were all added, probably to create the effect of an audience of teenage girls?

I Am Not Chamari

real

Lara

yeah the laugh track is the show runners lmao

this ep is one of the most annoying in the entire show. i even think sam and freddie were out of character for finding griffin's collection so repulsive. i forgot how this played out and expected sam to just be like oh lol that's kinda nerdy and funny but it's sweet and carly should have a sweet guy? like i imagined her acknowledging that it's not 'masculine' but being like who cares? esp after you pointed out how freddie and spencer are some of the people closed to carly and sam. i esp don't like how the show genuinely depicted this quirk about griffin to be undesirable and babyish. i think most girls would die for an attractive, 'masculine', guy with a soft ('feminine') side. this ep didn't age well to say the least. but i don't even know if it was acceptable for it's time either. think of the ep when sam tried to be girlier but the conclusion was that it's not odd to be tough and be a girl, and sam went back to herself. i think the strict gender norms and sexism in this ep are very contradictory and weird.

With all that I still think I’m Carly is a good person and her being bratty is ok. I blame it more on the writers and showrunner not wanting to show her learn a lesson and understand why Spencer says what he says. This whole episode would have been great if they included a scene where Spencer tells her why he doesn’t want her with the bad boy and it’s because he is responsible and he don’t want anything to happen to her and her to be hurt by a bad guy.

Steven Merced

She doesn’t always do what she’s told though. Literally an example is in the iLookalike episode when Spencer tells her she can’t go to the MMA fight, she disobeys him and ends up going anyway

i mean carly is a teenager. i think it'd be unrealistic if she didnt act like a brat sometimes. she's super nice and understanding 95% of the time

peyten

Also i dont think that carly should be allowed to do whatever she wants, but spencer could have taken this as an opportunity to set up ground rules surrounding dating and stuff, like no being alone in the apartment, etc. but he just grounded her so obviously she’s gonna react like that and sneak around. She’s a teenager

Shay

Also, carly is usually the good one, always does what she’s told. So its kinda nice to see a reminder that she is just a teenager and her and spencer are not always gonna get along. I think her sneaking around could have been avoided if spencer didnt forbid them from seeing each other and ground her just for kissing a boy that he himself said was a good kid just needing guidance

Shay

i think ive got a bit of an unpopular opinion when it comes to carly in this episode. I feel like she made a lot of sense, saying that spencer is the one that was being nice to him and stuff first. I think he overreacted to her kissing him bc she is a teenage girl and him saying that he first kissed a girl at 11 and making her dress like that was like odd purity culture ish. Ik she’s his little sister but i dont think he handled that well by grounding her.

Shay

totally agree. Spencer does so much for her and is such a chill guy -- she's very lucky to have so much freedom and as soon as she gets some restraint, she gets upset

Angie

I thought the episode was funny when I was a kid but as a twenty year old I think it sends a bad message to kids.

GIMM ENT.

Just so you know, the audience wasn't real. It was laugh tracks and recordings.

GIMM ENT.

The Pee Wee babies story is of the times. So I kinda get it but it doesn’t hold up. My bigger issue is Carly is awesome until Spencer tells her what to do or tries to ground her. Then the episode ends with her getting her way and no consequences. I will die in the hill that Spenser is doing a lot for Carly and to disrespect him when he tells her something she doesn’t like makes her unlikable.

Steven Merced

but he still is a 'bad boy' just with one hobby outside of it lol. Do you know how many guys in school that were bad boys smoking weed in the bathroom and stealing cars had a bunch of manga books in their room and watched things like spongebob? No one is one note lol.

Angie

Another episode that made me dislike Carly when i was a kid and still do....she really is not a great person when you think back. And yes, Freddie and Sam were teasing too BUT Carly is supposed to be the character that's like...'good' and what kids are supposed to look up to, yet they always made her really judgmental tbh. The guy is still cool and 'manly', there's nothing wrong with preferring that, but it's weird the ONE thing that isn't perfect to her is what makes her dislike him.

Angie

i don't think the collection thing was that deep like she was weirded out but it seemed like she would've gotten over it idk. she really got the ick when he started talking for them in the little voices lmaooo. there's also the other discussion like how she only wanted him to have "manly" hobbies which is yk not good but it was also like 2008 so a lot of ppl watching at that time prob thought he should be more "manly" too hence the audience reactions

ijah

I also didn’t see his collection as weird when I watched it, but I don’t like how she never has any consequences for disobeying direct orders from Spencer.

Kristal Whalen

I think you got a bit too in your feelings over the pee wee babies lol😭 I don't think it was that far fetched that it turned her off considering she was attracted to him as a "bad boy". Your argument about Spencer and Freddie doesn't really work considering one is her brother and one is her friend who she has never expressed romantic interest in 😂

Aks 321

This episode has always been weird to me but a little funny. Them acting as if boys don't have hobbies and/or have collections of their favorite interests. They made this so dramatic 😂 I agree that Carly was acting like a spoiled brat. I kind of got both sides to this episode. It makes sense that Spencer would want to protect her and not want her to be with him but I also got Carly side since I used to be a teenage girl and had those moments as well.

Cayden

I agree with what you said about Carly. Upon rewatching, I’ve also noticed so many instances where Carly comes off as a “spoiled brat” when she doesn’t get what she wants, with the “iLookalike” episode being an example of that. I still like Carly but yeah there are instances when you look back and notice that she can be a brat
