Clearly the spirits only tell part of the story! The Bennetts never mentioned the deal Emily made with Damon and how Damon kept up his end of the deal for 150 years, only for Emily tonthem go back on her end! Everyone is such a hypocrite, acting like they are better than Damon, the only one whonis honest and keeps his word, and doesnt pretend he is and has always been a perfect good guy! Like the biggest hypocrite, Stefan, who acts like he is the only good vampire left, he is judging everyone in that tomb as deserving to be there starving for 150 years just because they are vampires. If every vampire deserved that fste, or at least a quick merciful death, that should include himself!

This is most likely the answer, as it comes into play next season, and the barriers back up at that time. Some may say, they weren’t strong enough to put it back up, and it stayed down, but grams said it would only be down temporarily, sounding like they were just cracking door open and it’d auto close on its own. And that it was permanently open, but then season 2 with barrier up again would be a season 2 writers mistake. So I believe it was most likely what I’d said at start.
