These are the connections I make: - Subaru wants to "save Emilia". He explicitly said this many times since he first met Emilia - Emilia says "Thank you for saving me", and this is a recurring line from her in Re:Zero, we hear she saying or a flashback about that line many times. - When Subaru met Satella when she engulded her in shadow and he killed himself, he said to Satella: "I'm going to save you." - Satella repeatedly thanks Subaru for "saving her" in this episode and the previous she appeared - Satella said this episode "One day you must come to kill me." and Subaru again said he would save her. I can envision some kind of time travel, loop or another paralell reality involved, and maybe Emilia has some kind of special connection with Satella besides her appearance...
