i vividly remember being OBSESSED with this film when i was in preschool…i got the soundtrack for my 5th birthday and i told my teacher that i was changing my name to juliet 😭😭

2024-04-28 16:45:01 +0000 UTCI love this movie (and it had one of the absolute best soundtracks from my youth) but i *hate* Romeo and Juliet. Lol I find the story annoying af. Two rich teenagers in lust with each other, get married in secret then accidentally kill themselves 🙄 seriously Romeo is in "love" with a different girl and distraught that she doesn't return his feelings the same day he meets juliet. The story is eh, but this version is great. Im so glad you guys reacted to this. Such a fun, out of left field surprise!! I also love 'midsummer night's dream' with Stanley Tucci, and the Kenneth Branagh/Emma Thompson version of 'much ado about nothing' if you are feeling up for more Shakespeare. Both are comedies. There's a good Twelfth night out there floating around too. 😁

You best believe I watched both repeatedly for WEEKS. Young Leo was top tier crush material istg. Can't wait to watch this later. LOVED this adaptation.

2024-04-26 16:21:21 +0000 UTCOMG YES! One of the best adaptations! Benji-just to clarify: in the original play, Romeo takes the poison and dies, and THEN Juliet wakes up and finds him dead/unalives herself. So the change to make him miss her by 2 seconds makes it worse in the film.

2024-04-26 16:03:08 +0000 UTCI have this on DVD oh my god. I watched this as a kid and admit it was really hard for me to understand, even dubbed in portuguese. But yeah this one is a movie I recommend watching with subtitles. Actually I recommend watching all movies with subtitles.
