2024-05-29 23:40:49 +0000 UTCYES! I think it's like today's equivalent of a man admitting out of the gate that he primarily enjoys something that is stereotypically geared towards women. Shows often have wheelchair users be saintly, or like uber masc/sexual/charming to "compensate" for the character's physical limitations that the creators obviously see as a demerit on their suitability. It sucks. Bridgerton didn't do that. Gossip on it has definitely been portrayed as a vice, at best. It was fun to see Lord Remington say he loved it immediately, and the show to be like, "No, he's a good dude, he's a worthwhile match for Pen, and it makes Colin jealous as fuck."

It's unique sweet flavor was totally new to them, and demand spiked. But, it was expensive to transport without refrigeration, and most fruits rotted before they arrived. So they were slowly introduced as a greenhouse crop, and only the very wealthy could buy it. The pineapple became a symbol of wealth and status. Which is why the gift of jewelry was sent to the queen on a golden pineapple, to emphasize the idea of status that the family was trying to both honor in the queen and represent in themselves.

Their oldest son is a lord (Baron) and their kids are now more likely to marry well and thus get a title through marriage. Or if something tragic happens to their oldest son, then the younger son becomes the Baron. The position in society for Will and Alice is kind of tenuous but few people would purposefully get on the bad side of parents to a rich Baron.

2024-05-29 01:45:05 +0000 UTCI see a few people have already answered the bedroom question, but just to elaborate: there are at least two major reasons the noble/upper classes of society had separate bedrooms for husband and wife: 1. Marriages were more often an arrangement rather than a love match, meaning that husband and wife had their privacy. They would only be in the same bedroom during a sexual encounter (i.e. the business of making an heir, the purpose of marriage), but otherwise physical and emotional needs weren’t always intertwined. Many men continued to seek sex outside the marriage to meet their physical needs when it wasn’t time for making an heir 2. Men and women each had their own staff of the same sex to assist them with dressing/undressing every day. It would have been improper for a ladies maid to be in the room when the head of the house was undressing, or vice versa. So husband and wife had their own chambers out of propriety. There’s a lot of fascinating stuff written about the history of sex, marriage, and bedrooms in culture. Conservative views about propriety didn’t change for an absurdly long time (no thanks in part to the very conservative era of Queen Victoria). If you recall, it wasn’t that long ago that tv shows either didn’t show married couples sleeping in the same room or had them sleeping in separate beds within the same room (think I Love Lucy). Imagine how tv audiences of the 50s and 60s would react to seeing a show like Bridgerton!

I especially like that Lord Remington is seen as a worthwhile suitor, and not a "charity case" like we often get relegated to. Lord Remington is such a contender, that he's who triggers Colin's jealousy. Colin knew the gentlemen callers he was sending Penelope's way would like her, but Pen's reaction to Lord Remington made Colin face the fact that she could potentially like the men in return. Colin was suddenly aware that he really disliked the idea of Pen forming an attachment to another guy. Pretty toxic, but it happens.

2024-05-28 23:06:36 +0000 UTCAbout the bedrooms, in season 1 when they are first married Simon and Daphne share a room but after their falling out she tells the servants to ensure her things are moved to her room and then when they return after Colin’s scandal, I’m pretty sure they initially have their own rooms in that house as well. Daphne and Simon always had separate rooms, they just chose not to use them when they first married because it was a marriage of love.

The reason why you haven't seen this very much in the show so far, is because the genre is Romance and so the couples we see are all love matches. This was far from the norm back then. The Lord of the house would have his bedchamber, and connected to it, sometimes via a dressingroom or maybe a washroom, would be the Lady of the house's bedchamber. When they would consumate the marriage on the wedding night (otherwise the marriage would not be legal) or when they were trying to concieve, they would get ready in their own rooms, with their personal servants, and then the Lord would knock on the Lady's door. They'd do the deed, probably not with much feeling or focus on her pleasure, and he'd go back to his own bedchamber and sleep there. Since the couples we've seen so far are all obsessed with and horny for each other _all the time_ it makes sense that we haven't seen so much of the concept lol. - The 2 songs you heard and had a hard time figuring out are Dynamite by BTS and (as you figured) Jealous by Nick Jonas. - *THE KISS* 1. Colin and Pen's first kiss, happening like this by Pen asking, the whole "I could die tomorrow" "You're not going to die tomorrow" "But I could, and it would kill me" "You'd already be dead" thing is in the book, and it's pretty much exactly as originally published - except they're inside, and he then has to guide her, BECAUSE 2. in this situation, Penelope has obviously never tried kissing before. She has no idea what to do, how to move, what to touch where and with what. So _fun fact_ when they were shooting this scene, the note the director kept giving Nicola was to stop looking like she knew what she was doing lol. - *ressida's volumous looks. The costume designers wanted to show her character as a scared bird trapped inside a restricting cage. This season we see more of her character, and as we get to know her more, we learn maybe why she's a mean girl and see her in her home environment. The costume designers were very particular to make her looks big and eyecatching (very much like birds) to 1. have an intimidating and defensive outer shell that aligns with her emotions, and 2. take up visual space so a suitor might take notice. 2024-05-28 21:47:02 +0000 UTCThe nobility had separate bedrooms for the husband and wife, but they would do whatever they wanted with them in the privacy of their own homes. It’s a common trope in these period pieces to show how “in love” a royal or noble couple is by having their servants always find them in one bed when they come to wake them up in the morning. I’ve honestly thought about it and think a huge reason for the separate bedrooms is how much room all of the clothing layers take up and the people who have to assist you with dressing and bathing and doing your hair. Their bedrooms were also where they were dressed, and during most time periods, they were dressed and undressed several times throughout the day.
