Astro the Something concept art

I created myself a new fucker to love and care about. Meet my new OC Astro the Something, a pretty cliche name but it was an intentional choice to tie the character to the tendencies of the decade.

Ever since I did my first OCs I never got a single flash of inspiration to make more. I actually wanted to expand my universe with some other guys but such ideas can't be forced out, they always come somewhere from above. After all, I can't create a sweated out character that I won't care about, every design should be excellent and inspire me to work with my OC more. But no ideas visited me until recently when I got a quick vision of Astro's odd eyes popping up in my head and thought "Wow, I really need a character with such eyes." and so today I finally did the rest.

The results left me proud of myself and I think I succeeded at making a character I'll draw more in future. I honestly didn't expect to make a complete piece like that but I got carried away. First I did the character, then I though he needs his name written in a fancy way and then I ended up making a background. It's funny how the first shaded OC piece of mine is the one featuring not some of my first characters I love the most and did so many times so far but just some random new character. It's also the first time I did a shaded piece that is fully digital without any pencil involvement, well, almost, I did a quick sketch for his body, even his head was made in Gimp from scratch. Usually when I want to do things simple I just do pixel art, this was a nice way for me to experiment.

Astro was supposed to be just a random new character but I decided to make him Zed Vector's brother, you know, an artist like me just has to have characters with such bonds. I think they match well even though their similarities are minor and not so obvious like odd eye shape, odd hair that barely look like hair, floating elements (Zed's nose and Astro's ears) and skinny with potbelly body type. Also despite the name and eyes it's not confirmed that he is an alien or a robot or something, he is just an odd digital creature just like Zed, they're all weird without real reason and the name is more just a tribute to the 80-90s space obsession which was especially noticeable in games. And yes, I pretty much fulfilled my desire to have a character with piercings here. Hopefully more images of Astro won't make themselves waiting.
