2024-09-22 13:49:47 +0000 UTCRizzo, I totally understand your doubt and skepticism but just know, the only reason it is fantasy is because of the shape shifting which is only there as a placeholder for the Protestant vs Catholic debate which is critical to the story. There is no other fantasy or lore or magic, it is only these 2 races of people basically. That is the race war piece to it as well

2024-08-29 03:07:43 +0000 UTC😆 Rizzo, you are not alone. Fantasy in any form is a hard sell for me. 🫠I like LOTR, but game of thrones lost me real quick in the "wanting to care at all" department. I'll keep watching if you guys do, mainly because it’s fun to watch it when someone else has the same opinion but I definitely would be done with it (probably wouldn't have finished the ep, honestly) if it were just me alone watching it.

Somehow with zero expectations the plot twist still felt like a “gotcha” moment I wasn’t sure about, but it plays out in a fun, quirky way that felt fresh and kept the story moving. I think it actually worked to their advantage to make it less known in the marketing because I, like Rizzo, probably would have passed (but I’m glad I didn’t). Either way, thanks for giving it a chance to watch with us whether you decide you’re into or not :)

2024-08-29 00:34:32 +0000 UTCI felt like Rizzo, I wanted a quirky, Bridgerton-esque show in the Tudor period with hot romance. The Ethian plot threw me and had me nearly putting down the show but i finished it in a day!!!! Something about it drew me in despite all its weird twists and i had to know what happened next. Benji please keep the hope alive for enjoying it because there are some interesting moments😄👍 and Rizzo, if you like LOTR which is classic high fantasy, this is based off a YA book so it has a different vibe of fantasy with the standard "a magical race is subjugated" plotline to appeal to youths who feel out of place. Totally respect your opinion and thank you for being open-minded to watch it, good luck!!!

I get it though that’s why I can’t watch shows like game of thrones, it’s too much for me😂 I hope you’re not too miserable watching, Rizzo, sorry 🫶😓😂

2024-08-28 23:37:49 +0000 UTCAs someone who had no context for the show besides a brief clip of the main couple, I was a little confused by what they were doing with the Ethian plot at the start of the series, but the way it works into the series really sold me on the fantasy element of the show. Hope you guys have as much fun with the show as I did!

There was no way for him to skip Mary and name Elizabeth, who was also a Protestant, as his heir, so instead he chose Jane, who was also a Protestant. When Mary rebelled and had Jane charged with treason, she returned England to Catholicism and put a number of protestants to death, hence the nickname Bloody Mary. The show, and the novel on which it’s based, used Ethians and Verities in place of Protestants and Catholics, sort of. It’s not quite a one to one change.

It's a retelling of the history of Lady Jane Grey, and is described as a comical, fantastical, and witty re-imagining of the Tudor world. The authors each write from a different character's point of view, and then write together in the same room. They have three books in the Jane series but every book is about different girl named Jane and then they did three more books very similar to this series but about three different Mary’s.

2024-08-28 19:39:36 +0000 UTCOk, that was different reaction than I expected, I did not know Rizzo does not like fantasy if I would have known I would not suggest it but at least when they found it was really funny I was shocked too. I mean when I watched the trailer there are little clues but until you watch the first episode you are just like I probably need to study more because who are these Ethians they are talking about. I mean I lived the fantasy part of this show but I think the comedy and romance is very good to so hopefully you will at least enjoy that? Also I think sometimes people need to show how racism is wrong in different settings like hate between fantasy races or in Witcher hate between elves and dwarfs. Sometimes it is just allegory and symbol of something in real world. That is why something is not an issue in fantasy world but there is another issue but in fantasy cover. So you can look at it with different eyes and that is partly why I love fantasy but also fantasy is fun and yes it is similar fo fan fiction when you can do almost what you can in the world if in that world it does make sense. But I get why not everybody likes it. But I still enjoyed your commentary as always because you are best and you are always funny and interesting to watch and listen. So thank you, cannot wait for episode two.
