Hello, so I have some retro handhelds that use emulation station for Linux and on those I have the option (Show Folders: Never) to only show the games in a directory and not the folders. for example in "roms\nes" I'd have folders from #-Z like "roms\nes\a" "roms\nes\b" since my library is sorted alphabetically with subfolders and in those versions of emulation station the games are all still presented under the NES collection in one big list. However, with ES-DE, I can't find a setting to toggle that will display in the same way, instead under the NES collection it will only list the first game in each of the #-Z folders as a directory. Is there some way I can change this?

I'm happy to hear that you have a good experience with ES-DE! And yes the RetroArch version on the Play store is ancient and doesn't work correctly.

My absolute favorite frontend and finally on my Retroid Pocket 3+ (I took my time installing it). At the beginning I had the problem that RetroArch64 crashed every time I tried to start a game. But the problem was with the RetroArch version from the PlayStore. After I installed the APK directly from the RetroArch website, everything works perfectly! Great work, keep up the good work!

I think those will run 32-bit operating systems so it won't work, and even if they don't then Android TV is normally crippled with no SAF support so most emulators won't run anyway. As far as I know the only Android TV device that is usable with ES-DE is the Nvidia Shield, and it's because it has a custom Android TV OS that is more of a hybrid with regular Android mixed in.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but i've tried using this on my Odin 2 Pro and I had a previous custom directory for Roms. I chose that folder and it scraped roms but it opens the Emulator and the rom doesn't launch - EG PPSSPP and then I get a long error message saying it cant read the content and then the emulator crashes. I also cant choose Yuzu for Switch roms.

The smartphone I have is the maximum update Android 9 can upload. Is ES-DE impossible to install on Android 9? If you try to install it, it fails.

They probably can’t include it anymore since Citra was sued by Nintendo and forced to shut down. Try downloading and installing Citras last release yourself and see if that fixes it. Their sites been taken offline too so you’ll have to find it elsewhere. Just google it or search archive.org. And you might have to point ES-DE to it once you do, I’m not sure. Or just run the games through Citra itself if you can’t figure it out. Hope this helps.

This is already supported! Although you still need to use a third party app to import your Android apps and games into ES-DE I do plan to include a built-in import tool in a future release. Having an issue with ES-DE launching Citra games. "Error: Couldn't find emulator 'Citra', Has it been properly installed? Games work just fine launching from within Citra but not through ES-DE. Tried all the options for 'alternative emulators.' All other systems are working fine through ES-DE like Dolphin, Aether, RetroArch etc.

Only Skyline is currently supported for Switch emulation on Android, Yuzu support was removed a few versions back due to the very problematic history with that emulator project. You can add it back in yourself via a custom system configuration entry although it's not officially supported by us. The problem you refer to about settings "getting forgotten" is actually not that, it's due to an issue in the Android operating system and it's covered here: https://gitlab.com/es-de/emulationstation-de/-/blob/master/FAQ-ANDROID.md?ref_type=heads#every-time-i-reboot-my-device-es-de-is-starting-the-onboarding-process-why-is-this-happening As discussed there it's unfortunately impossible to fix this at the application layer as it's an operating system defect. And uninstalling ES-DE or clearing the cache will never delete your scraped media, so something else must have gone wrong. Maybe there was a corrupt SD card or similar? That has been shown to cause a lot of strange issues for other users.

Hey, thanks for the response. Sorry for my tone, I was kind of frustrated when I typed that. Now I've got everything reconfigured and it works normally as before. I followed a YouTuber instruction on how to make the ES interface as a Home app, using a third-party app called AnyHome. As for settings being forgotten, I've seen a post on reddit and some of us are experiencing the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/emulationstation/comments/1axqaiu/setup_every_time_i_turn_on_device/ After uninstall+reinstalling the ES, the scraped medias are gone for me, maybe because I cleared all cache when I was trying to have it reconfigured. I'm now re-scrapping the medias.

Setting ES-DE as the home app is not supported yet, but it's planned for a future release. I have never heard about settings being forgotten like this, but maybe it's related to running it as the home app somehow? The selection for the ROMs directory is handled by the built-in directory picker in Android which is accessed via the onboarding configurator and which is a graphical tool where you don't need to enter anything manually. As well, uninstalling ES-DE never removes your settings or scraped media, the only thing removed is the downloaded themes, which needs to be downloaded again using the built-in theme downloader. I installed it on my AYN Odin 2 and made ES my home page. After the battery runs out, the ES-DE resets itself, forgetting all its settings, I couldn't for the life of me reconfigure the ROMs location. Since when you go to settings to do so, you CANNOT choose directories, you can only TYPE the directory out completely. I can't figure it out, I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling it, all the settings and themes, scrapped media are all gone, it's a huge pain.

Yes there's unfortunately no guarantee that someone will know what to do about it, like mentioned I have a Shield Pro myself and I've talked with many people that is using this type of device and it works for them. So something specific must trigger the problem on your device.

Hey thank you for the amazing work. I know that you’re working on a feature to allow es-de to be able to work as an Android launcher as many request, but if you do that, please keep another option for people who don’t need it as a launcher, like me. I usually use this on my samsung tab s9 dex mode, and in dex mode, no launcher app is allowed to run, so not being a home launcher app is actually a needed option for me.

Hi, it should work fine to insert the card and point to it when running the onboarding configurator. But be aware that placing the ES-DE directory on an SD card is generally not recommended as the performance can be pretty bad.

Hi there. First off thanks for all the hard work. I was using ES-DE on an Alldocube Iplay Mini 50 pro, I just got a Lenovo Legion Y700 2023. Can I just put in the sd card I had previously set up ES-DE on into the Lenovo and just point ES-DE to it during set up with no issue? Or do I have to use an empty card first, let it do its thing, then put in my previous ES-DE folder/roms on the card to be safe?
