Cat Update

My cat was attacked by a fox. This is very strange as:
1. I didn't realize there were foxes in the area. I've seen a coyote or two, but no foxes.
2. He's shown no interest in going outside before now.

He's a rescue. There is a lady with a farm nearby where people just drop off their unwanted cats. This was also news to me. She takes them to the vet, gets them fixed, and their shots, then let's them loose. My former in-laws like to feed and care for the cats by setting them up with food in the warmer months and using their barn in the colder ones.

I opened the door and he rushed out on a mission. I practically toss the mail on the floor and rush after him. This works out in his favor because when I find him he's in the jaws of a fox.

The fox drops him as I approach. There's blood. He's crying, I'm trying not to freak out, and the neighbors are getting nosy.

One of the neighbors gives me a ride to their vet. A few hours later, we get home. He's drugged and keeps trying to walk. I have to wrap him in an old shirt of mine to keep him from moving around too much.

The vet said that he was lucky that I showed up when I did, that the fox didn't decide to make him take-out, and that he's chubby. The fox bit him just above the hips and he had enough padding to protect the important bits. He's up and walking now, bow-legged and I'm doing my best not to laugh because I know that he'd pout.

He's going to be fine, I'm still stressed, and I have no idea where the fox came from or what was said to piss my cat off so much to go out to try to kick his ass.

Comments

I'm glad the little fellow is getting better.

That's always been the question. "What does the fox say" Apparently, your cat knows and didn't like it.
