Devlog: Game of Thebes
Added 2023-09-18 09:27:06 +0000 UTCGetting back to you with some more updates on development. Biggest change for now is a new addon for water droplets I've tried out. Doesn't work out for all shots especially with long water trails but it does speed up the whole process while providing some more variety.

Meeting the current deadline of two weeks is going to be some tough busy work but right now I still think I can make it.
As I don't want to spoil every frame in advance I want to show you some other things I've been experimenting on for some new game features. This has been on my mind this week in particular as the license policy of the unity engine which I was planning to develop this in will probably change coming next year. The way these changes have been announced have erased the trust of basically every unity developer so I've experimented with other options instead.
The basic idea is being able to choose a character out of the novel (later on adding additional characters not present in the novel) which you be able to control and interact with the world and other characters. This would allow for deeper exploration into all characters and your favorite pairings as not all of them are going to get the same amount of focus in the novel.

I think getting this to work in the Ren'Py engine which is also used for the novel can be done but is inconvenient in its programming and does come with quite a lot of limitations. Exploring a 3D prototype within Unreal Engine, may be another option without most of these limitations. Although the 3D assets from the novel would need some adjustments to be used in the game engine this still might be the way to go in the long run.

I'll keep you posted on whatever I decide on. Even with all the hurdles in whatever engine it has been a lot of fun to get creative and work around them so I can't wait to get out a prototype for some new forms of entertainment to you.
