Jedi Outcast - Coming first to Meta Quest 2

The Galactic Senate have voted. The Emperor would be pleased. It was touch and go for a long time, with both titles taking narrow leads. However, there can be only one (wrong franchise!). We are pleased to announce that Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast will be the first game of the two released.

For those who were looking forward to Academy, we really don't think your wait will be too long. There is a large amount of overlap and the games run on the same engine. Both are currently up and running and we are really looking forward to getting an early access release out as soon as its in a fit enough shape to share.

A couple of announcements:

Jedi Companion App

BaggyG's QuestZDoom Launcher / Quake3Quest Companion App will be repurposed for JKQuest to be released alongside these titles. Both games will be supported by a single APK, with the choice of game controlled by a commandline setting. Switching between games will be handled by the JKQuest Companion App as well as offering automated mod downloads for both games. More details to follow soon.

Team Beef Director's Cut

We've been honestly really surprised how good both games look on the Quest 2 but some things don't age as well as others. Watching countless gameplay videos and playing the early levels it is clear that Outcast, especially, has some issues around the feel / behaviour of the gunplay. The lasers feel a little slow and underpowered, hitting a moving storm trooper is almost impossible and the hitboxes are smaller than Baby Yoda's pinky (Case in point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0WuzlEB-24).

Whilst changing the game and possibly effecting the balance as well as altering nostalgia is a cardinal sin, we here at Team Beef are frankly drunk on power and don't think anyone can stop us. It is therefore our pleasure to announce the Team Beef Director's Cut. We're yet to agree a full list of changes, but are aiming for gunplay to feel more visceral and impactful with less oddities.

We know not everyone will share our vision. Therefore any balance / gun related changes are toggleable via the in-game menu.

Jedi Outcast - Coming first to Meta Quest 2

Comments

Currently playing through jedi outcast on my pc to get a renewed feel for the game after 20 years. I'm very excited to try this new director's version as I totally agree that there are a lot of improvements that can be safely made to this game.

I Cant Waitttt! Wonderful job!! Thanks I love this game!

If there’s one change I’d love to see, it would be the ability for lightsaber throws to be done with an actual throwing motion, though I don’t know if that’s feasible.

stormy waters

I’m down for changes absolutely. Things I noticed playing the vanilla game yesterday. I have two main complaints about the AI behavior in general. They either stand there and wait to die with zero self-preservation. Or, they have this ridiculously sporadic circle strafing at a high rate of speed. It looks extremely unnatural, especially when viewing it from the first person(VR is probably worse). I understand for an early 2000s game, quirky choices were just the reality of development, but I wonder if simple, yet effective programming could be applied to address it? For VR, I would not mind slowing the game down just a little bit and making tactical choices in gameplay more of a focus. Even with a mouse, I had trouble tracking enemies because of their circle strafing. In VR, this will be compounded. The gameplay was either too easy, or frustrating to track enemies. Those were the 2 feelings I got while playing. I don’t mind blaster fire being faster on both sides, AI and player. And I did have some choice moments of fun as a shooter until the AI would just break down into the two main complaints above and take me out of the experience. But it seems like minor adjustments could go a long way. Not being a programmer though, I'm not sure how minor that is, but the potential is there to have something more challenging and fun, with less frustration.

arrrg i cant wait!!! i hope at least patreon donators get access soon!!!
