Vida really wanted this to come to something, the work she was doing for this pharm company. The promises of where she could be, maybe a year from now, made her skin tingle. These people could find her a position in the new way of things that would finally reflect her abilities. She could be out from under the thumb of this male-dominated medical community, and help build a new one from its ashes. And in the meantime, she’d get to watch them all squirm.

She knew Melissa had been tense, these past couple of days. Since Monday, Dr J had been acting weird, for sure. Trying to exert himself again in the office, specifically avoiding any “alone-time” with Melissa. Pointless, futile, if what she knew about what was going on was true.
