Nice to know
This inventory system should now be mostly production ready for the next demo. There might be still few bugs lurking but nothing game breaking.
Weapon manager is now also fully connected to the inventory system and you need to assign weapons to the equipment slots (primary & secondary) in order to use them.
There's now all kinds of options to move, transfer, swap and equip items. You can find the "fast option" toggles within the input settings.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the new KP-31 weapon for this build, it still needs some animation time but it will be added to the next test build (hopefully with the AI).
Feedback topics
- Inventory (general feeling?)
- Intuitivity (something confusing with the features?)
- Bugs & crashes?

Got it now. Maybe instead of "Primary" and "Secondary", use language like "Equip Weapon" if putting it in the slot itself doesn't actually equip the weapon without a keybind also. It's two steps to do one thing. Plus there are "raise" and "lower" commands, which is counter intuitive because raising the weapon seems like something you should be able to do after you make it your primary weapon, especially if it's the only weapon you have.

2023-11-25 02:50:50 +0000 UTCHi! Once you have the weapon item equipped to primary or secondary equipment slot, you can draw the weapon with keys 1 and 2. These inputs can also be seen and modified in the demo settings menu. If this doesn't work and there's a bug, let me know :)

2023-11-25 02:38:55 +0000 UTCNew member here. Cannot seem to get the gun to equip for the life of me, with default settings or with my own changed settings. I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong.

2023-11-25 02:28:48 +0000 UTCI tested it a bit. The only bug I found is the one mentioned by Herbmaiser. You can unequip a weapon mid reload breaks gunplay. An animation problem maybe? Other than that, it ran smooth. Had no issues. One thing that confused me was how to reload the mosin. I thought it was broken for a sec. An improvement suggestion is to have the player close the bolt when he loads the last bullet. Or you can close it manually by pressing R. I'll see about making a quick video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6XSxBnYpEk

2023-11-14 22:09:46 +0000 UTCWorks really nice, good job. Runs smoothly without drops, haven't encountered any hardware problems. I think that the gunplay is amazing, I like how i can move fairly quick while hip-firing, firing sounds are nice too. I've experienced items falling through the ground tho. Everything else about it seems really polished and im really keen on the winter textures. Have you thought about reloading the mosin while there are still rounds in the chamber tho? So it's possible to still reload while having for example 2 bullets left. In conclusion, amazing job Antti.

2023-11-14 20:59:18 +0000 UTCWorked great for me. Very smooth, no frame dropping or anything like that. No crashes. Overall a very nice experience. The inventory system is intuitive to me and I don't have much direct feedback about it. One thing, though. I'm visually impaired and would appreciate slightly larger fonts in the tooltips, hovertext, and slightly larger icons in the inventory screen. Also, I find it a bit tricky to get in correct position to pick up small items like the gloves. None of that is a showstopper for me but accessibility stuff like that would be nice to have if it fits the schedule. (I'm only speaking for myself here. Other users might have different accessibility concerns obviously). The item-falling-through-terrain bug looks fixed for me; didn't encounter that in this build.

2023-11-14 18:01:24 +0000 UTCYes im mostly referring to the 2D preview with clothing items the camouflage jacket for example which should be the same item in both builds. I can send you the photos i’ve taken if you want. I’ll probably compare the icons as well if I spot a clear difference there. In terms of audio, yes i have a usb audio interface and headphones connected through that.

2023-11-14 17:30:53 +0000 UTCGreat work, everything is running much silky smooth still, didn't notice any bugs with the inventory (or anything else). Being able to drop items by drag dropping them to empty space feels nice and intuitive (I'd second what someone else mentioned about in future making an option for hold-drag and drop aswell as the current click-drag and drop). Good luck with the AI this week, will be really great to see it implemented in godot.

2023-11-14 17:06:59 +0000 UTCEverything looks and feels buttery smooth, very impressive! Found nothing to complain about, so not very useful feedback ;)

2023-11-14 14:37:30 +0000 UTCThanks for the lenghty feedback. When you mention image quality are you referring to individual item icon resolution? In terms of audio thing, are you using some kind of USB connected headset?

2023-11-14 11:38:15 +0000 UTCThere will be a bullet insert option before the mag is empty, I will try to add that for the next demo.

2023-11-14 11:35:52 +0000 UTCThe inventory is feeling great there are no stutters or performace issues when in the inventory screen or any bugs, its easy to use and navigate through.I have had no crashes and the game is running super smooth with the animations for the mosin looking and feeling great! With the mosin will you have the option of loading a bullet after just shooting once instead of shooting all 5 rounds to initate the reload. Overall the movement and feel of the game is awesome so far keep up the great work mate, your smashing it!!

2023-11-14 11:21:32 +0000 UTCInventory Played for about an hour. The inventory feels overall very robust and well optimized. It's in a very good place now and supports the growth in other areas. Incredible work ethic, Antti!! Couldn't find any bugs related to inventory screen, everythings works sharply. Im probably not gonna drag anything else than to organize my inventory since it's so fast and clean to fast equip items around! In terms of intuitiveness, right mouse would be cool to equip items as you kind of "consume" that item the same-ish way as medkit when you right click it. Transfer and drop are okay to have 2-button keybinds since they are not as important as equiping. General One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the image quality on the inventory page, it feels like it's not quite yet on par with public demo 1, is it because of the "item renderer" you had built in unity? Texture resolution? I took pictures side by side of the 2D character model and the clothing items are much sharper in public demo 1. Gotta say though the item image quality in the inventory screen in public demo 1 is the best i've seen in any video game. The 2D model is also a bit bigger than in Godot which I like too, to really highlight your character. Bugs & crashes Don't remember if mentioned but unequiping a weapon mid-reload blocks you from using any weapon, had to restart everytime. If you jump and press tab, jump animation stops and you're mid-air while in inventory. Although much better, I still got a few items to fall through the ground or make this jitter movement on the ground. Sometimes there's gradually worsening distortion in the audio, i have no idea what is causing it. It usually starts out fine but maybe the game being out of focus causes something. Once it's worsening, it's only getting worse.

2023-11-14 11:04:00 +0000 UTCSeems like a really solid inventory, I didn't run into any bugs. I didn't want to read the little equipment squares, so here's what I tried. First I tried to right click on gear in my inventory, and when that didn't work I left clicked to see if it would highlight where it goes. I does when you float over the right spot, but I wish it highlighted right when I picked it up. Then I tried dropping it on the silhouette, and that was the best by far. I like that it also swaps gear and puts the old one in an empty spot for me. Maybe the silhouette equip option is obvious to some but it took me a minute to discover it. If I didn't know about that interacting with the inventory would be a bit more annoying, at worst accidentally chucking my gear on the ground if I miss the grid in a hurry. edit: also, the movement and shooting and reloading is feeling REALLY good! It took me a bit to figure out how to reload the mosin though lol.

2023-11-14 00:47:44 +0000 UTCThanks for the feedback! Proper drag and drop can be switched to this grid system quite easily but I just currently prefer this current method but in the future I might add some option toggle to switch between these input methods. Yea, the ESC key thing is currently just reserved for some of my editor things and I active that later on for all the UI windows for Public Demos like they were in Unity versions. Hard topic to explain, but it just a small development nuance currently... Freelook maybe after Public Demo 2 :)

2023-11-14 00:45:20 +0000 UTCThe inventory is looking SO GOOD! And the animations are soooo smooth, the game feels so nice. I couldn't find any bugs in my little bit of playing. Would it be possible to add a drag and drop feature? Right now, from my testing, you have to click to grab it and click to place it down. Maybe also make it so pressing escape can exit the inventory, too :D For the future: Freelook feature? 👀 Overall, the game is feeling great, both performance-wise and gameplay-wise. You have done an amazing job porting (and making) this game.
