Dev Update (11/02/2024)
Added 2024-02-11 18:47:26 +0000 UTCHi!
I have now basically the dev build ready and here's the main features that are included in this build for feedback:
- Save / Load system
- Shelter (Attic)
- New weapons (Glock 17, VSS, MK-18)
- New optic (POSP 6x42)
- Musical instruments (Guitar)
- Fire / Wind shaders
- Ragdoll tests
- Lootable vehicle test
- Small lighting changes
This is most likely going to be the last dev build before the Public Demo 2, since the next month is going to be so busy with all the pre-planned events.
Related to this, one main question that I have been thinking lately is that do I want to go with just container based loot saving in the shelter or do I activate the similar save system that I had in Unity where saving is connected to all individual items in the Shelter. This feature basically allows you to drop items anywhere in the shelter and they will remain in those locations.
I think without that individual item saving feature there are going to be a lot of "where did that item go" moments in Public Demo 2 if dropped items are not saved in the shelter, so I think it could beneficial to test that in this last dev build.
Activating this individual item saving will probably take around 6-8h of development time if I remember correctly when I did it in Unity, so even though I have this current build already ready I decided that I will utilize this last dev build test for testing this feature as well.
In other words, I will spend this night activating that feature (I wasn't originally planning that) and the dev build will be ready then tomorrow.
If the individual item saving turns out to be problematic in Godot with the current save system or when you're testing it tomorrow and if it's not reliable then we go just with the container saving which is already done. In this case I will develop a more robust system for that after Public Demo 2 but in anyway, I think this feature is worth testing at this point.
I will let you know when the dev build is ready to be downloaded tomorrow :)

Yeah a "the long dark" type system sounds easier. Though Bethesda physics are interesting to say the least lol
