Nice to know (Performance & Visuals)
This dev build is not an optimized version of the game, the performance is around -20-30% worse than optimized public builds. There may also be shader issues or small hickups since everything is not pre-compiled for these builds.
If you are having low frames use Performance rendering mode for test purposes.
In terms of visuals, this dev build also is limited version of the Village map. Most debris and secondary level details from public builds are deactivated (relates to AI navigation testing).
Nice to know (Ragdolls)
I included a debug tool for testing the ragdoll physics since AI spawner is not turned on for this dev build (relates to new AI character models and spawn mechanics that are WIP).
You can activate the ragdolls with key "K". If you keep pressing that debug key the ragdoll event is simulated constantly to test the performance.
Known issues
- Inverted spawn direction (Attic exit)
- Glock 17 slide reset when inspecting (if slide is locked)
- I somehow forgot to add the new POSP-scope (attachment for VSS) for this test scene, but it will be included in the Public Demo 2.
Feedback topics
- Save system (Does it work?)
- Save system (Can you break it?)
- New weapons (Any issues?)
- Playable Guitar (Easy to understand how it works?)
- Wind & Fire shaders (Any rendering issues?)
- Ragdolls with debug tool (Any physics issues?)
- Antti (Developer)
Comments
I totally agree with this when I was editing the latest devlog that became quite annoying... I will lower the volume and tweak the sound at some point.

2024-02-23 18:14:20 +0000 UTCA quick comment/feedback: the crackling sound of the fire is too sharp/loud, making my ears hurt. This for both of my devices to listen with. I use a Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro or my in-ear Fiio FH9 with a FiiO K7 Headphone Amp, gives me a balanced sound picture. Would love to see some rework on the fire sound to soften the crackling sound. 😃

2024-02-23 18:12:11 +0000 UTCSmall comment. When you exit the attic. The characters back should be too the door. I'm stupid, but I entered the attic again when I thought I was exiting to the village map :D

2024-02-16 08:06:18 +0000 UTCUmm I don't know it this a known issue but walking into the front of the white van near the gun wall causes the game to crawl to a halt, i was running uncap fps, put vsync on and set everything to performance, still does it here's video link for it https://youtu.be/GVDc3o-9Nso

2024-02-15 20:30:28 +0000 UTCYes, I know it's in the opened position only. But if you look at it, and then look at an actual cover on an AR, it's installed backwards.

2024-02-15 19:34:39 +0000 UTCThe regdolls did not cause performance problems for me. However, I think they are a little odd. Too stiff. They move like a foam mannequin more than a person. Several times, a ragdoll ended up in an unrealistic state after falling, like lying on its side with the arm holding a weapon sticking up into the air, or posed in a kneeling position. This happened frequently, perhaps 20% of the time.

2024-02-14 17:09:28 +0000 UTCPerformance of this build was fine for me. No frame rate drops or anything like that. Save and load works, except I noticed some of the settings are not saved: - Position of character is changed: no matter where I am or how I am facing when I save, when I load I reappear in the attic, at the door faced inward - Automatic fire setting is not stored: if I set my weapon to automatic (F key), then save, then load, it will no longer be set to automatic - Weather setting is not stored: if I set the weather to, say, dusk/thunder, and then save, and then load, the weather will be set to day/neutral I noticed that when transitioning into or out of the attic, the weather setting also resets to day/neutral (automatic fire setting sticks). A minor thing I noticed: in the far end of the attic where the mattress and candle are, opposite the computer, there is a space where the character can get "stuck". It looks like a small depression with a beam along its edge. You can jump out of this, but it feels strange--this is a strong guy, he can step over a little bit of wood!

2024-02-14 16:55:39 +0000 UTCMK18 - switched to **safe mode**, it still retains full automatic mode.

2024-02-14 08:02:47 +0000 UTC**MK18 ejection port cover is inside out.** - no, the cover is in opened position only.

2024-02-13 18:30:07 +0000 UTC- Save system (Does it work?) -Yes, save state is the last time in attic. Items save in attic loose or in container. Equipped items stay. Items gathered outside do not persist if you don't return to the attic. - Save system (Can you break it?) -I haven't been able to break it. - New weapons (Any issues?) -No issues. New weapons feel good. I'm excited for the VSS. - Playable Guitar (Easy to understand how it works?) -Yes, cool addition and easy to understand. - Wind & Fire shaders (Any rendering issues?) -No rendering issues. Fire crackling is very loud (can hear it across the map) and volume doesn't change with ambient or SFX sliders. - Ragdolls with debug tool (Any physics issues?) -No issues. - Other -When I click an item in my inventory it disappears. Reappears when I click again to put it in a slot. [Quit game, loaded game, issue resolved. Unable to replicate.] -RMB to use a medical item, name of the item disappears. Name comes back when transferred to another container. If the item is already in a container, close and open the container to reset name. Moving the item by clicking it also resets the name. -MMB tooltip in inventory goes to the far left of the screen, out of view. -Can't tooltip when interacting with a container b/c MMB is used, user can change keybind. -Bolt hold open doesn't show on KAR-21 until pressing reload button. -Bolt hold open doesn't show on MK18. -MK18 ejection port cover is inside out.

2024-02-13 16:07:13 +0000 UTCA small bug with the van when the back door is open an you jump on the bumper, I crouched but accidentally hit middle mouse button and the back door closed on me catapulting me out of bounds through the ground.

2024-02-13 15:30:24 +0000 UTCHi! Thanks for the feedback. Yea item placement is definitely coming back as soon as possible since it's needed in multiple areas of the game :) The placement feature is quite simple even to implement but it has been left out still since I first have to decide a good physics solution for the game and that still on-going process.

2024-02-13 12:55:14 +0000 UTCHi Antti, thanks for the Dev Build. Everything worked great with one exception. I'll get to that in a moment. The FPS was stable and the new shaders look great. The small problem that exists are the shelves behind the Main Area of the Attic. When you throw an item on the shelves they sometimes slide through and sometimes they stay put. Exactly the same happens when re-entering the Attic. Sometimes the items are exactly where you placed them, sometimes they slide in front of / or under the shelf. I really miss the "place item" feature, I've noticed. Hope this will be possible in Godot at some point (somehow).

2024-02-13 04:25:08 +0000 UTCOne thing I noticed is that it is difficult to know where you're looking when picking things up. For example if you take an ACOG off the wall and drop it, you can spend the next few minutes trying to pick it up because there is no visual indicator exactly where you're looking and the detection zone seems to narrow given that there is just a single item to pick up.

2024-02-13 02:17:47 +0000 UTCOverall very nice! Really appreciate the work going into this! Everything feels nice, but I was wondering if its possible to have toggle-able mechanics for leaning and ADS? Other than that, the build feels really crispy and smooth. Recoil feels so clean compared to other games that have Tark in the name... but in seriousness, feels very clean and responsive. I think collisions could use a little bit of clean up though. I was in the attic and got stuck on some uneven floor on the ground. I would imagine I could just walk over that. As well as the candle on the floor and bodies on the floor, I would like to be able to walk over them at some point and not be stuck behind something like that. I appreciate the hard work! keep it up :D

2024-02-13 01:01:22 +0000 UTCActually that loose loot loading indeed uses still physics since I forgot to freeze those while loading, good point. This mistake was caused by a little "on-the-fly" coding that I did today while implementing support for that type of saving. And yea I'm going to make some kind of small invisible ramp collision frame for those small attic parts to make sure you can walk in/out of there.

2024-02-12 23:21:55 +0000 UTCSave system appears to be fundamentally working, I can close the game and re-open and still have everything I was carrying and equipping. The loose loot definitely also saved, but I can tell they all moved a little bit when the game was loading back in. Maybe because they get physically dropped into the map during loading? All the weapons feel nice and snappy, no obvious issues on first impression. Guitar is really cool and easy to use! Wind shaders seem totally functional! If I walk up super close to a fire, the fire shader (which is beautiful on its own) will flatten so far that it clips through the wall of the barrel. https://imgur.com/a/OYp2Dl7 No apparent issues with the ragdolls, it's pretty fun to mash K and watch them go flying lol. It is a bit hard to walk over them, their bodies kinda act like a short wall even when you try to jump over them. As a final note, it's pretty easy to get yourself stuck in the smaller compartments of the attic! I think the movement system could benefit from an update that will allow the player to ascend small vertical bumps without jumping. I had to mash Jump + Crouch while moving forward to get myself unstuck. https://youtu.be/31ogNI-6riw?si=w4hetxcYO4UeKgMy Overall, very nice build! I love the aesthetic of the attic, feels dark and cozy. Reminds me of some safe zones in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that have minimal lighting. And the animations are so clean, the VSS in particular was quite satisfying to play around with.

2024-02-12 23:19:49 +0000 UTCExtra mention: If you don't download the entire folder and just run the .exe file, you are missing the physics add-on that I'm testing with this build. This scenario will break most of the physics. Google Drive also didn't like the previous link, it didn't pack the files correctly as a .zip, so I replaced the file with pre-packed .zip file.
