Shipyard POI: Factory (WIP Concept)

Hi!

I saw few comments a while ago asking about the Shipyard's factory complex whether it's part of these map expansions.

The answer to this is yes and here's one of the exterior concept about the complex.

This building will be one of the largest POI's in Area 05 and it will be completed in multiple phases towards the early access version. These upcoming map expansions will introduce the factory exterior / yard area and few main interior parts as well, rest will come later on.

When it comes to these map expansions, I will also need to decide how detailed I want them to be since there's basically few options with the next demo:

Option 1: Release the demo at the end of this month (less detail, not fully on par with actual early access maps)

Option 2: Release the demo a bit later (August-September) and provide the early access level of map detail, meaning the visual quality / asset density will match the early access version. This option would also include adding one new shelter to the game, so the game would have support for multi-shelter saving and would not cause "save file corruption" later on since that multi-shelter support will need a major update to the current save system.

I will probably make this decision next week, there's also few other elements related to this decision, few personal ones and few related other game releases in the game genre during these following months.

Basically it's really important to extend the demo "shelf-life" with these recent updates as long as possible, since that demo will be on Steam (with few patches of course) as long as I need time to produce the early-access version.

If you want give your input on this decision, let me know what option you would prefer :)

The way YouTubers assassinate titles in development these days, Option 2 makes more sense.

Option 2, no question.

Option 2 sounds the best to me. That way you should be able to gather feedback much before the release of Early Access. And it will give a better idea of what RtV is to people who try the demo out ! If we have to wait a bit longer, so be it.

I'd go with option 2, even with stalker 2 releasing in sept, it's always better to have a higher quality demo on steam.

100% Option 2 in my opinion. You said it yourself, it will provide a better shelf life for the demo as well as showcase the EA version in a graphical stand point. Whilst it will take longer because of the new save system, that alone will provide the shelf life in a much larger aspect along with the map expansions. Like many of have said, and I agree; a much more refined version of the demo will help provide a solid selling point. Either decision you make I personally will be looking forward to playing the next demo. Stick to your guns and trust your gut. You have an amazing product in your hands either way.

Since people will judge the overall quality based on this demo i think option 2 is the wiser

Hi! The next demo will be the last public demo, that has been decided already 2 years ago, it was presented in the first devlog (2x public demos) and this is also highlighted in the official roadmap (website). I also think it's really important that the last demo leaves a good impression with all the recent new features and especially with these map expansions visually, but it's always a balance act how much content you want to provide through free demos and when you want to start "storing" the upcoming exciting content for the paid version. But I think the next demo update (whether I decide to go with option 1 or option 2) will provide bunch of new stuff and with few demo patches it can stay on Steam for a bit longer period while I transition to that next production phase. Demos are nowadays quite a tricky topic in general when it comes to game marketing. Most game studios won't even bother with demos since quite often the actual early-access trailer is far more important than actual playable content which to me is quite counter-intuitive but that's how many studios/consumers operate and that's why most studios put all the "demo resources" to high-production trailers instead. When it comes to RtV, I think these demos have definitely been the right approach but at some point I will also need to start focusing on some main marketing content which will combine all kinds of compelling visuals, story elements and replayability stuff that is not yet present on these demos :) ps. I will update that Public Demo 2 v2 date on website next week when I decide which option I want to take, thanks for the reminder :)

I think Option 2 would be the “healthiest” for the steam demo. :)

The Building looks great. if i would be you i would first decide if this is the last Demo before Early Access or not. Depending on that decision i would choose. Why? The last Demo shouldn't be a vertical Slice. It should give the feel of an smaller Early Access. People should be able to experience the Game as you have planned it. If this is the last Demo before you are working towards EA i would make sure that everything feels right because People will either buy or not buy the Game based on the fact how they liked the Demo. Take your time to build the Maps and maybe when you need a break from that do some QoL changes like: - Ammo Stacking when unloading a Weapon or moving from Inventory to Container. - Let Hunger and Thirst decrease slower / deactive it while in the attic and maybe some AI Changes - Let them lower or holster their Weapon while there is no threat. - AI needs to reload / should be able to run out of Ammo i think those are Points that are necessary for the last Demo before EA. TL;DR: Take your time to make the Demo as good as possible, because that will be a selling point. Edit: Don't forget to change the Roadmap, People are already asking when there is a Demo Update.

This will add so much to shipyard. Option 2 would make the most sense.

I would also choose Option 2. I think I already saw a good amount of foundation or basic "bones" of this project. I would like to see some more "meat" on the "bones" and expanded content. Best of luck! :)

Paulius Bartasevičius

Option 2. I want a small glimpse of what the early access will have to offer in terms of visuals :)

option 2

Option 2. Where as it would be nice to get more content to explore, a bit more polished one is better for the larger audience

Antton Eskola

Even if i want new content so much, i prefer option 2. Good things are always worth the wait.
