Road to Vostok & Modding

Here's something that became quite a relevant topic suddenly and here's a social media post that I shared, so you are aware about this:
"This topic became relevant perhaps a little faster than I had expected, but different Road to Vostok mods have started to appear with this demo.
I have received multiple messages about whether I'm going to allow these mods and here's the answer: This game will eventually have its own official modding guide and separate tools to make modding as easy as possible.
Road to Vostok (meaning me) will never block anything related to modding or limit access to these mods, even if they don't correlate with the vision of the game.
In other words, no need to worry if you make these mods or want to use them, go for it!"
And few more details related to this that I want to share here on Patreon.
I'm a huge fan of Stalker's modding scene, I have hired multiple contractors from there and I know how much skill the modding community can have and there's also people that are far skillful in certain game dev elements than I am.
This topic is something that basically is either you allow mods or you don't, because everything between is really time consuming to control as game studio (especially as a solodev), so I kind of needed to publicly announce that which attitude and option I'm going to take towards modding.

I feel like this is a good call. I'm not a game developer, but it strikes me that forbidding mods would require building the game in a way that discourages them, plus a bunch of enforcement work tracking down people who try anyway. That has so much potential to put a negative pall over the game, besides not being feasible for a solo dev anyway. That's not even getting into how cool and vibrant a modding community can be and how good that can be for the game.

2024-10-03 18:30:23 +0000 UTCToi on aika hyvin, kun ottaa huomioon, että peli ei ole edes ulkona ja porukka modaa demoa. Et aika helvetin siistii.

2024-10-02 20:42:07 +0000 UTCExcellent Annti. STALKER is the obvious comparison to RtV but I also like to recognize that the DooM mod community has kept a 30+ year old game alive.
