New Attachment: Lasers & Illuminators

Hi!

Here's some new items from the commercial branch:
- OZ5 (5mw green) "cheap"
- LS17 (5mw red + IR) "medium"
- ANPEQ-15 (25mw red / green + IR) "advanced"

Then few disclaimers to these. Road to Vostok is not going towards this high-end "operator-tier" gear and equipment, so these items are going to be one of the most rare items in the game (especially the ANPEQ).

The main reason why I'm adding these as a lootable items is because the Military faction boss can use certain lasers / illuminators / NVG's, so the player needs to have access to these also.

Also the game needs some "end-game" equipment that are really rare (like the LPVO's will be after the loot balancing) + these will allow some really cool visual effects.

Loot Challenge: 163

ps. I will probably share the first feature highlight from the commercial branch related to these already this month and there's also one "hidden" feature to these lasers that is related to the shelter cat (meaning the cat which was quickly teased in one of the old Unity videos) :)

Hi! This is quite a lengthy topic since there's so many nuances to this, but to give a really quick summary: 1. Godot is really competitive engine, it has quite a lot of "industry standard" stuff when it comes to 3D but it's not trying to be Unreal in terms of pursuing photorealism and next-gen stuff and I actually like this. 2. "Vanilla Godot" has quite a lot of limitations and small weird issues for making RtV kind of project but most of those can be fixed through custom shaders, editor scripting, plugins and general debugging knowledge when it comes to graphics. 3. There's few what I would call "high priority issues" related to file system stability and editor performance when the scenes get complex, so large projects need to figure out solutions until those are addressed with upcoming Godot versions. 4. There's definitely more potential to the platform as a 3D engine than most would think and it's mostly a marketing issue from Godot (IMO). I can confidently say that a dedicated team of artist and technical artist could easily pull of something really high quality (visually) within few months if the goal would be to make some sort 3D showcase environment with all the modern tricks (PBR, photogrammetry, volumetrics etc). So Road to Vostok is not even close what the engine could offer graphics wise. My main takeaway is probably this: Godot is a great platform to start with if you're interested about FOSS engines, but like every engine when the projects become more complex they will need custom solutions, Godot will just need a bit more of those than current commercial engines.

Hey Antti, can you give us some insights into the Godot engine. Iโ€™m interested to hear your thoughts on it compared to Unity given how long you were with it. How does Godot compare with it? What do you find are sticky points with the engine? I just want to hear your general views on the topic.

Wooo let's go, wasn't expecting these at all for the reasons you mentioned yourself. On the topic of simple lighting though, I'd like to make a small wish as a flashlight nerd. Could we please eventually have the choice of throwy and a floody flashlights and weapon lights? Idk how hard or feasible it is to make a videogame beam more focused, but I can't think of a single FPS game that has a flashlight that'd throw even a hundred meters.

Lasers combined with the canted aim are going to be a game changer. Would really like to be able to use the mosin iron sights with the PU

I can already share few details about the shelter cat thing. The cat will be linked to the Grandma (like many things in this game), she lives with the cat in an isolated cabin near the Border Zone, but since the Grandma has few medical issues, there will be a time / event where she will no longer be able to take care of the cat. At that point, if you have certain tasks done you will have an option to foster the cat in your shelter.

Road to Vostok

I was going to ask if a PEQ system would be added in the last QnA but decided not too. I am SO happy that they will be in RtV!

Looking forward to seeing more about the shelter cat, I will put my life on the line for it lol
