WIP Screenshot #8

After analysing demo feedback and videos, it's obvious that the current inventory system and those inventory action buttons (Use, Transfer, Drop etc) are clunky, confusing and generally non-ideal for smooth looting experience.

I'm currently converting the inventory system to more intuitive direction which is based on this multi-cell "tetris" approach, known from games like Diablo, DayZ and Escape from Tarkov.

I attached a small video clip from current progress of this system.

What do you think about this approach?

Yes. Perfect.

BlackVomit

I haven't had the time to check out the demo just yet, but looks like you are heading right direction with the inventory management. I had system like this planned for our game back in the day too. Worked on those games, and s.t.a.l.k.e.r

Juho Harju

I think its more intuitive with this new approach, if you can equip or unequip weapons (or swap) like that

Shamnolya

I'd say that is definitely much better!

I sort of thought the demo wasn't reflecting how the inventory was going to be anyway, but I welcome it being closer to something like DayZ which most of us will know pretty well at this point.

Adam Topliss

100% better, from that clip you attached it seems a lot smoother then what was in the demo when it released.

CruisingLlama

This looks great! Agree with the others on a quick transfer & quick equip functions would also be very useful when looting.

Steven Smith

Much better! Inventory management is something I enjoy and when it’s 1x1 squares for every item it’s a little boring. It’s one of the reasons The Cycle Frontier didn’t catch on with me personally

CaptainAshtro

This will be a far more natural system for people to pick up and know kinda just immediately, big ups for item rotation and weapons taking up more inventory space too :D

Tenebris Infinite

Yes much better I love it a little more improvements on the ui of it’ll be great

Lonewolf565

I will implement the item rotation tomorrow, but I have to see if that dynamic inventory shape is wise to implement, there might be some many small unwanted side affects with the dynamic scaling so I have to see how that would work out :)

Road to Vostok

Yeah, prefer this, it makes working out which items are which much more simple. It looks really neat, great stuff.

Christopher Davis

This looks much better than what we saw IMO. Are you able to rotate items in inventory, or is it only horizontally inclined items? You could even go as far as to have clothing change the shape of you inventory as well as space so that you have to work with the clothes/backpacks or whatever you may have

Liam

Yes, this is very much better! Looks good.

Samu Karesma

ofc adding it to the wip video is a great idea. i think that multi slot inventories fits the realistic style of the Game way better. keep up that great work, you are awesome :)

SavRoyale

I will add some Tetris-showcase to next WIP-video, so it will be public knowledge then to everyone.

Road to Vostok

It was partly a placeholder, but I wasn't sure if I want to keep things at single-slot or more towards this tetris style.

Road to Vostok

Absolutely, I will implement item rotation tomorrow

Road to Vostok

way better, like it. never had a problem using the inventory but thought it was a placeholder. Edit: maybe make those important posts public so we can link them to calm down users on steam etc. dont want to tell or show them anything thats patreon only.

SavRoyale

This will be a great improvement!

Nepzukka

To add to this. Maybe also a button to rotate objects in the inventory? Shfit+scroll up and down?

Matthew Newton

Nice. A shortcut to quickly transfer between inventories would be very nice. Right click or shift/ctrl + click.
