Here's the new development build for you to test.

Arm-IK
Character arms now use dynamic bones and procedural inverse kinematic (IK). This implementation creates much more dynamic weapon movement and realistic rotations to arms when for example inspecting weapon.
Inspection Perspectives
You can drag rotate the weapon when inspecting with [X]. When you are inspecting the weapon, you change the rotation/perspective with [Scroll].
Dynamic Firemode Selector
When you change the weapon firemode with [F], you can now view the weapon 3D-selector moving to correct firemodes. If the selector is on another side of the weapon, you can rotate the gun with inspection perspectives.
Updated Weapon UI
When you inspect the weapon with [X], the weapon UI has been updated to support the attachment system. Text elements has been replaced by icons and each attachment slot now has an swap and remove indicators.
Canted Aiming
When you are ADS-aiming with weapon you change to canted aiming mode by pressing [MIDDLE MOUSE]. This canted aiming key will be changed in the future, but you can now still test how it works.
Attachment Swap + Indicator
When you pickup attachments that are compatible with the weapon and you open weapon UI with [X], you can see green swap indicators highlighted. Each attachment slot is numbered an you can swap the attachment with [1/2/3/4] number keys.
Attachment Remove + Indicator
When your gun has attachments and you open weapon UI with [X], you can see red remove indicators highlighted. Each attachment slot is numbered an you can remove the attachment by holding [SHIFT] and by pressing the [1/2/3/4] number keys.
Modded Icon
The system doesn't support yet dynamic weapon inventory icons which change depenging on the attachments. This is compensated by adding a green M-letter icon to weapon if it's modded. The icon appears if you move modded weapon to inventory grid.
Weapon Save Data
The weapon now stores the attachment data, this means if you unequip or drop the weapon all the attachments stay on the weapon.
Upcoming Features
- Support for Dual-Render attachments.
- Support for more attachment slots.
- Weapon stats that are linked to attachments.
- Hover tooltip elements related to attachments.
- Much more attachment stuff...
Tips
If there's multiple same type attachments to choose, for example optics, the system makes a list from compatible attachments from inventory grid by going left to right and top to bottom, so if you have rare situations when you have multiple attachments, you can manually move certain item above another and it will be picked first when your swapping attachments.
Keybinds
Other keybinds remain the same from previous Dev Builds. You can still access the demo menu and change game settings with [F1].

Comments
Well explained, I understand what you mean now, thanks for the video. I agree that this may not be worth fixing because indeed that situation in-game where you bunch of attachments in the inventory will be quite rare and even though you obtain those, I'm guessing people will store those in the shelter containers etc, but great find anyways. I think the next iteration will be to allow that inventory based drag and drop directly on the weapon and then there's ability to choose specific attachments. After this I will have to consider if some sort of dropdown or mouse based selection is needed anymore for weapon inspection.

2023-01-01 02:41:05 +0000 UTCHi. I have taken a slightly drunken rambling look at this after getting home tonight ^^ I like the immersion of having to inspect the weapon to change attachments. As Liam mentioned. Mouse control in the future would be nice. I did record a video with my ramblings. I might upload it. I found a potential bug where you can avoid an attachement being used. If you have 3 items for a slot and you move the one last in the inventory between each time you change the attachement for the slot, it will never be picked. I'm guessing the list is "reset" everytime you change something in the inventory. I can't type so I'll do a quick video for what I'm talking about :D

2022-12-31 23:08:49 +0000 UTCI agree most of these, this attachments system is the first iteration and the goal was to make a solution that supports attachments in general. Now that's done and it's easy to make changes to this system because everything is modular, that was the big task with this system. In terms of recoil, this thing is constantly on the "table", meaning recoil behavior changes a lot because there's so many new sub-features being developed which relays to recoil. For example weapon stats will be implemented next week and these will modify that recoil behavior based on weapon weight and attachments. Great points!

2022-12-31 21:06:56 +0000 UTCThe attachments look very good, and the model is quite nice. I do feel the controls would be much more intuitive if when pressing "X" , it locked the screen and allowed you to use the mouse, providing the user the ability to click and select attachments or simply press the red x to remove an attachment. As for the recoil, there is a small kick for the first round and after that, every shot has purely horizontal recoil. With vertical recoil it allows the user to control the weapon, but horizontal is near impossible to compensate for. From what I can tell, the suppressor has no affect on recoil, which I would assume it would have at least some affect weather negative or positive. Beyond that, everything has worked with no issues.

2022-12-31 19:28:19 +0000 UTCYou download the whole zip. file and then inside the folder there is .exe called Dev Build - Attachment System which launches the test build. No need for moving files, just unzip the folder.

2022-12-31 18:32:21 +0000 UTChow can I open this? or do I put it in the files of the demo?

2022-12-31 18:29:57 +0000 UTCYes drag and drop inside the inventory grid will be implemented once I apply those dynamic icons so you can see the weapon icons change when you drop attachments, so there will be two ways then to attach things.

2022-12-31 18:13:39 +0000 UTCI can't wait to use all these new mechanics on a functional demo. Will we have another way to attach accessories on the weapons, like just drag and drop? or will always be through weapon inspection?
