Dev Build - Recoil System (v2)

Hi!

Here's the new development build for you to test.

Updated download link (Google Drive):
DOWNLOAD BUILD (1.23GB)

[FIXED] = Attachment Save Data was destroyed when swapping from Primary to Secondary if the Primary had attachments.

Note: When your downloading development builds, always download the whole file structure. Do not move or download individual files/folders.

Disclaimer: You can share, record and publish content from this development build, but do not share files or download links outside from Patreon.

Recoil System

This new recoil system is designed to provide good middle ground between realism and fun. Recoil behavior has been adjusted to more predictable direction where there's less random camera shake and more emphasis on mouse compensation when using automatic fire.

Weapon Audio

There are three weapons to test with the new audio: SP2022, AKS-74U and SVD Dragunov. This new weapon audio should be much more punchy and there's now also weapon specific reverb tails.

Optic Settings

When you inspect a weapon that has an optic attachment on the rail/mount, you can move the optic with [CTRL + SCROLL]. If the optic has adjustable reticle brightness controls, you can modify those with [ALT + SCROLL] when you are looking through the optic / aiming.

NVG / Image Intensifier

You can test the new NVG / Image Intensifier filter with different lighting conditions. You can activate the filter with [T] and change the lighting (time of day) through demo settings [F1]. You can also check how this filter reacts with your flashlight, flashlight was mapped to [MOUSE 5 (Side)]

Winter Examples

In the demo settings [F1], there's now Winter options available. These options are also linked to the weather types, so you can change these dynamically.

Demo Settings

On top of the winter features, there's few new options/fixes in the demo settings. Firstly, the Dual Render options is back and should now be working with the attachment system and optics that has magnification. There's also now UI-toggle to hide the HUD-elements, Inverted Mouse toggle, Water Reflection toggle (no water elements in the dev build though) and post-prosessing related Exposure options.

Controller bind is gone :(

Nice work, i'm really hyped for this game. Just one thing: Can you prevent players from taking advantage from the gamma correction when is night? I just tested it and if I change the gamma on PC I can see all clearly, even when is night, and if change on my monitor too I can see even more. With that I can easily play without the NVG. If you try to do this in Rust, for example, it changes almost nothing, you still can see nothing. It doesn't work there.

Diego Barros

Thanks for the feedback!

Road to Vostok

Nice work there. After my initial few minutes: 1) All tree trunks should be vertical, almost none of them are. 2) The random choice of stamping sounds should avoid repeating the same sample right away. 3) I would like to see some movement of the front sight relative to the rear sight.

Really enjoying the new weapon sounds! Can't wait for the second public demo! Great progress so far :)

This dev build got me so hype for the demo update!

Hey ya, adding to the feedback, I found a few things: - You can't open the attachment menu if you're facing a wall or obstacle. - If you ADS and open door at the same time, you go into point fire when the door open. Just need to separate the buttons or prioritize the door interaction. - I'm not a gun expert so pardon me on this one if I'm wrong, but I feel like the bullet ejection angle is kinda off? Seems like they eject forward a bit much. - Something also feels off about leaning. It seems like my character only leans his head and not his whole torso. I think you can add a small sidestep with the lean to give a better leaning feel. - I'd also love if you can sprint/run out of crouch, in case shits get real while you're sneaking. Again, thank you for these dev builds. Really helpful and educational for someone wants to develop game in the future.

Loving the progress and I'm excited to see how much it has improved. But I just have to say that I am not a huge fan of the controls of weapon inspection. It's quite clunky and cumbersome to use number keys and then try to use correct shift and alt modifiers. I think it would be a lot better and user-friendly if you just freed the mouse cursor on weapon inspect and you could choose the attachments with mouse and pick the correct attachment from a dropdown list. Or at least cycle through them before installing them. Especially with the sights, it's kind of annoying to wait dozens of seconds (which in itself is not a bad idea) just to choose the right optics.

Just started supporting, and I am really impressed by the new recoil system, it's fairly simplistic and a much better way of representing it than the violent camera shake and vertical climb that was shown in the Public Demo. I am enjoying seeing how the game is progressing. Cheers.

The test build seems to be working well and all of the features have been thoroughly tested and appear to be functioning pretty well. However, I have some constructive feedback regarding a few specific features. The Muzzle Flash is causing a slight headache as it lacks horizontal consistency, particularly when used in conjunction with NVG. This could be potentially problematic for individuals with epilepsy. While the Recoil is easy to manage, I believe that it is heavily influenced by the Time to Kill (TTK) mechanics. If the recoil is too low and the TTK is too fast, it may result in an overly simplistic gameplay experience. The recoil can currently be easily managed by lightly resting one finger on the mouse. In addition, I am not particularly fond of the constant "always ready" position of the gun. If it is feasible to incorporate a "low ready" position, that would be excellent, but if not, that is completely acceptable. Similarly, with regards to the camera being fixed to the gun, it would be beneficial to introduce some slight movement or "wiggle".

I see! I was wondering if it was some sort of technical obstacle. Thank you so much for the explanation, this was a very neat insight :)

Fonzi

That's actually true related to LOD's, if you want to know the technical reason to this why they look bad in Winter, here's an explanation. The winter style relies on texture/color projecting from above which simulates snow fall and it will pick on assets that has upfacing geometry. Since the Tree LOD's are Billboards (3D-planes) and they don't have thickness or upfacing geometry so the snow projection method doesn't look nice on them (yet). I will fix this at some point, I basically just have to tilt the projection angle for tree LOD's / Billboards in order to make it work on those models.

The dual render option uses a separate game camera to render the screen and it should look almost identical in terms of colors/brightness but there are minor differences because the dual render camera doesn't use some post-processing effects in order to save performance. I will look into this if there is some shader related darkening happening that I missed.

Road to Vostok

First of i just started supporting so thank you for everything you have done so far. I am a Tarkov player looking for a great single player experience so this has been on my radar a long time. The recoil system i like so far. I like that you can control it with your mouse without to much effort. I will do some more testing in the coming week.

Arcticfox

I'm loving the recoil system so far, though I find the first few bullets kick a bit much, making burst fire quite hard? Everything else though, is amazing, especially the weather system. Fighting baddies in heavy blizzard is gonna be damn immersive. Good stuff, can't wait for more!

OkDude13

Antti, the recoil re-work is well done & weapon audio sounds great. Optical positioning and reticle tuning is a unique touch as well. Very nice to be able to interact with the attachment system. Overall, the progression is exciting. Being Canadian - playing in the snow is always fun - thumbs up! I'll find time over the next few days to test everything more in depth! Stoked. Thank you.

snowsoldier

Antti, this is absolutely amazing, the new recoil system, amazing! The snow is awesome, the new weapons are amazing. The NVGs, amazing. Everything about this is amazing! You're making a masterpiece here, and I'm so very happy that I'm to be able to watch at this masterpiece gets better and better.

CruisingLlama

All the new stuff looks and feels awesome! My only critique is that for Winter mode, when the trees switch to their lower quality LOD far-away appearance, it doesn't blend as well with the higher LOD trees when compared to Summer. That honestly feels like a minor nitpick though, this dev build feels amazing overall.

Fonzi

I love the update guns sound amazing. Night vision is great. The only thing I found was, using the ACG sight with no dual scope it doesn't look the same as with dual scope on. It's like the brightness disappears.

Tony Foster

For this bug, I found that simply holstering the weapon (let's say tap 2 when the secondary is out) will make it shoot again

BeakySneaky

Good find, thanks! I will fix this tomorrow, luckily this apparently fixes automatically with that swap.

Road to Vostok

Good night Antti, I found a bug, if you open the demo, empty the pistol magazine, and then switch to the AK, it doesn't shoot. You have to remove it from its slot, leave it in the inventory, and put it back in its slot for it to work again. Edit: Happened again after switching from the Ak to the SVD, it does shot, but I can´t rotate the gun to see the fire mode and I can´t put attachments either

Dario Gonzalez

The night vision and the reticle brightness adjustment..I love it. Thank you, Antti!

pgml

Thank you!

How fast do you want to fix Bugs? Antti: "Yes" You are awesome.
