Dev Build - Trading System + AI
Added 2023-08-24 21:48:57 +0000 UTCHere's a new development build for you to test.
1. When testing this dev build, start a new game in order to reset the save system.
2. When you're downloading dev builds, always download the whole file structure. Do not move or download individual files or folders.
3. You can share, record and publish content from this dev build, but do not share files or download links outside from Patreon.
Feedback: All feedback is important, but this dev build is provided for testing how the initial trading system works and some of the new AI updates.
The most valuable thing is to try to find out if there's a way to break the trading system, meaning you get unlimited amount of trader items or lose your items when some bug happens.
Feel free to give feedback for AI as well but like mentioned in the last devlog, the whole AI ecosystem will change as soon as Vostok AI is implement (2024), so most of the current AI behavior models are temporary.

Trading System
Trading system is now activated for computers which are located in the shelter and also in the sandbox map. Computers are temporary solutions for trading until there's proper trader character models.
The current trading system is based on Request / Offer ideology which are displayed through separate trading UI grids once you open the computer.
You can transfer items to the trading grids by dragging [LMB], hotkeys [CTRL + LMB] or through context menu [HOVER + RMB].
Items in the trader supply are now just placeholders, the full item database will be connected for Public Demo 2.
Once the trader supply reset timer reaches 0, new set of items will spawn on the trader grid. In this dev build the supply reset is every two minutes for testing. In Public Demo 2 supply reset with full item database will be every 60 minutes.
AI Updates
The main AI features that are highlighted through this dev build are AI bullet SFX, AI animation updates, AI sensor updates and cover behavior.
One key issue with this dev build is the limited sandbox map where there aren't that many covers or room for AI to manouver, so AI gets really easily "cornered" to the concrete fences surrounding the sandbox map.
One improvement in this dev build is also related to AI spawn mechanic optimization. Previously when AI spawned to the map it caused clear visual stutter, now the AI spawn stutter is almost entirely gone especially in high-end machines.
AI muzzle flash is now also much brighter, so if you switch to night time + use the NVG, you should see the AI firing direction much better in the dark.
You can activate and deactivate AI from Demo Settings [ESC/F1].
AI Disclaimer: The AI in this dev build is missing multiple major components related to the new AI logic since I decided to start from scratch with AI. You can find more info about the AI overhaul plans in Devlog #8.
Ammo System Updates
Bolt-action rifles and shotguns are now connected to the new ammo system and +10 game breaking bugs were fixed related to reloading.
The ammo split feature was unnecessary, it has been replaced by individual ammo box drop [SHIFT + LMB] and individual ammo box transfer [CTRL + LMB].
Now ammo system also uses auto-stacking, so similar ammo gets automatically stacked when you place it to the grid that already has existing ammo with same caliber.
Other Features
- Bullet SFX (Player + AI)
- KAR-21 + New optics
- Weapon stats (Weapon UI)
- Reticle brightness for LPVO's
- Dynamic arm textures
- Antti (Developer)
Comments
Thanks for the bugs, these were great findings. I will fix most of these before Public Demo 2.
Road to Vostok
2023-08-25 16:32:49 +0000 UTCWhen control clicking many items from the trader until the request area ran out of horizontal space, the next item was automatically rotated but not placed and became stuck to my cursor. I was unable to interact with anymore items. When the trader reset, the item released itself from my cursor but remained on the screen on top of the newly refreshed items. I was again able to interact with the new items. I'd prefer if the offer items returned to my inventory when exiting the trade screen rather than dropping to the ground. I found it difficult to tell which direction enemy fire was coming from.
