New Beginning | Road to Vostok

Hi!

Here's the video that cover through the Unity situation and what's coming for Road to Vostok.

I'm really interested about hearing your thoughts after this video, so feel free to comment here :)

Hey Antti, just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the transparency and the way you want to change the gaming industry. I joined my first patreon (yours) because of this. Keep up the good work!

Bold move. I think you made the right decision - although I'm a bit disappointed that this delays the release of public demo 2.

Really Happy with the Port to Godot! I worked for ~ 5 Years for Epic Games / Unreal / Quixel so I could be biased to Unreal Engine. But I would like to see Godot grow and become a competitor for other Engines. Competition keeps everything alive. You always need competition in a market.

Got my small support. Hope it helps and don't let the personal attacks bring you down. I wish I was a supporter earlier. Excited to watch you succeed. You will, I have no doubt.

I think you are making the right call. Much enjoyment!

I had never even heard of Godot until you mentioned it, but I looked at it, and I saw you could "bring your own language," so I looked to see if Golang was supported, and it is! That's pretty cool. I've been writing Go for years professionally.

Aight fair point from you but I still wan't to somehow help you not just from donating you in patreon, I am humble programming stundent and want to do something in gaming if you got smth to me then im in to help you for free if it makes it more better my finnish brother.

UE5 is an awesome piece of tech but for me the learning isn't the issue, it's more about where I would like to position myself and this project in the industry and where direction do I see the indie scene going in the long run. Having an open-source engine opens up a lot of possibilities for me that I value over high-fidelity graphics and most of all I like the Godot Editor and the general simplicity, so you just choose right tool for the right job, have fun and make video games :)

Road to Vostok

Go for UE5 it would be more reliable for you, I have played a little bit with that for my school and have made a simple game about it, I don't have much experience with the UE engine right now but if you need any help just hit me up, I am in if you need anything and want to get better knowledge about how I can help you etc..

Exciting turn of events! Good luck with Godot, I can't wait to see the progress you make in the engine!

Since I am a Blender user I can understand your thinking. As you say, Blender used to be rough but became, in my opinion, the best option for 3D modeling. I think the same can happen with Godot. Even though it may be a downgrade from Unity and UE in the beginning, Godot will most likely be a good alternative and since RtV is a long term project, the engine itself has all the time in the world. I hope the Godot developers support you on your way, RtV might be the first project of this class on Godot and I hope they appreciate it as it will be a massive boost for the engine. The only worry I really have is that it will put a stone in the way of the modding community as they too will have to deal with the engine for the most part?! Looking forward to the coming weeks and builds. I'm excited to see what Godot is capable of.

Godot will be lucky to have you!

Given how open you have been about all this, how much thought and effort you have put into testing different engines, I trust your decision to go with Godot. I am also impressed that having made that decision, you want to help the Godot developers and community and share your experience with them. I think that is very exciting and I am looking forward to seeing your progress. Thank you for being so open and explaining the issues clearly.

I just watched the video. I think you are making the correct choice, like you rightly point out, if you aren't having fun whilst going through the process of making the game, then whats the point? Your heart wont be fully in it and you will have a nagging feeling in the back of your head that the rug could get pulled from underneath you at any time. I'll continue supporting for aslong as I can afford to, and am excited to see the results you can get with Godot. Just wondered if it would be possible for you to compile and release the version of the second demo you had with Unity and just throw it up on here for us to mess around with, but obviously with the caveat that no support will be provided? No worries if not of course, just a thought.

What an exciting new chapter for this project. Thank you again for being so transparent, looking forward to what you'll be cooking up in the coming months. :)
