Aak Daar Dovah, Fent Zu'u? Niid. Ch 18

Here you all go!

I tried to rush this out yesterday 11/30, to have three chapters in November, but I was late. Just holiday stuff keeping my so busy. Nevertheless, I'm mentally counting this mostly as part of that grouping and we'll try to still get our usual content in December!

I hope you all enjoy.

As usual this will be raw and there will be corrections. I just finished it. Use the link if you want to use commentary and stuff, and if you find it easier, as always there's an attached PDF. :)

Thank you all for being here. You're the reason I can keep doing this!

It's a good question to ask, but any answer I could give is probably not satisfactory, because it would depend a lot on what has happened and what's going on. I will say that while Coryanne has a history with Alysanne that obviously makes for something, at the end of the day, as Alysanne pointed out, Coryanne already ran from her company once, and she won't turn away from the lords (right now at least) on Coryanne's behalf. There's simply too much at stake for someone who you only knew for a couple years, who ran off for five. Five years which were very big in Alysanne's life. On the other hand, Coryanne's relationship with Ysmir is relatively fresh, but it doesn't have that gap of past stuff, and other things. Then you take into account Coryanne's history (both as a noble woman, and all the things since) and it gets more complicated. Like, if you ask right this very moment, it's all too up in the air. What happens in the future will decide whose loyalties go where and why.

Procrastination

I wonder, if Ysmir and Alysanna were to oppose each other, who Orwynne/Coryanne would stand with. To be honest it seems to me like she's the type to bolt completely, but Ysmir did extend a lot of goodwill towards her, and I think that should count for something at least in thay situation. Would she betray him if asked?

That wasn't like, the end of the "interaction" between them. Just the end of the scene within this chapter, so as to not have non-Ysmir time drag out too long and risk more people getting in moods about it. So I can do a little division here and have Coryanne think back in the next chapter(or the one after that) to things that were further said. Maybe I'll go back in and add that though, just to get it out of the way and have it be one less thing to work in, then. I'll think about it.

Procrastination

On a second read, shouldn't Coryanne have given her condolences to Alysanne in their reunion? Especially given their history together and how she knew both Jaehaerys and Alysanne before.

That's because it's a lord's right to choose their heir generally (a higher liege may interfere, all houses exist at the whim of royalty), but there's not many instances in writing of the affirmation that it must be a male. One of them (the only one canonically pointed out at least) was ironically something that came about through the Widow's Laws that Alysanne got Jaehaerys to push through. Ironically, I think Jaehaerys did a lot of things (intentionally) to deny women certain rights. It was his decision regarding inheritance (near the end of his reign allowing a vote from the lords) that essentially became the precedent for inheritance of power being exclusively male (in royalty) which became the call-to precedent same on other nobles. The more important thing here that isn't getting discussed is that Alysanne and Rhaena took the verbiage within the Widow's Laws that specifically indicated eldest son out (seemingly causing no change), and then created a tax incentive for if a lord's daughter inherits. Otherwise, it is not a huge change, other than that it naturally increases the value of having a lady in your house(or in your vassals' houses, which then confer the benefit to you). That five years if a female becomes the head is quite a big deal though, in the long term. Essentially, they're creating incentives for an allowance made, incentives which begin to bridge a gap. Everything in this law is (effectively) entirely optional.

Procrastination

Huh, I really imagined the reveal at the end would be about the inheritance laws they actually care about, not some tax forgiveness thing. I understand the way to people's hearts is through their wallets, but I don't quite see what this accomplishes.

Luminant

Melisandre's coming for him. She's probably one of the few women in the world he could safely fuck, especially if we exclude the Targaryans, but seriously fuck Melisandre, all of my homies hate Melisandre.

Luminant

This was petty interesting, and I'll say again that non-Ysmir chapters were never bad. Hell, much of the build up for the eventual reunion and reactions are reliant on them! Either way, I know he'll do great in the melee, but I'm curious how well he'll do in the joust to come. Thanks for the chapter!

Ao Black

Hahaha now he's got a bunch of cult follower. Azor Ahai mans accidentally became the Jesus of this world. Save the world from world ending zombies lol

Eternity Smut

There's implied more of the conversation that went on here, but I think you'll see it in flashback in the future, because I already felt like the chapter was very dominant non-Ysmir perspective, and I know people get up in arms about it. So we got the important bits, and in a future chapter, we'll probably get a further peak from what didn't appear in this chapter of that meeting that flash through Alysanne's mind in a pertinent moment.

Procrastination

Build up, huh? Good to see some of our favourite lady's backstory being fleshed out. Mayhaps she should have emphasised our Dragonborn being a... force of nature, but i doubt the Targs would truly understand until the proofs shoved in their faces. Looking forward to the next chapter!

InsertName099

It's a little less black and white than that, given the benefit basically applies to a "house" not a person, but is relative to a person, so people will definitely have *feelings* about it. Some of which are not positive. The biggest thing is definitely the incentive that a woman heir gets certain benefits from the crown that a male does not.

Procrastination

…oh God, that’s going to piss a lot of people off. Unequally applied privileges don’t make people less misogynist, they make them jealous and spiteful. It’s going to have the complete opposite effect than what she’s looking for.

Gabriel Clark

The starting section was great. I enjoyed use of a letter to both tell ysmir's story from another perspective and also help setup some more stuff with some of the fire priests. Definitely looking forward to Ysmir's first meeting with a dragon in kings landing as well as seeing aerea again (maybe with more clothes this time). Not sure if a big confrontation/event or some incidental meetings first would be more fun.

TAtro

Not so long. Should begin the tournaments really next chapter! Was going to be this one, but to give some scenes their due credit, it just ran over and the chapter would have turned out huge.

Procrastination

Bro stop teasing me, you know what I want. Lol. The build up to when Ysmir finally reveals himself is gonna be epic. Of course the way things are going it’s gonna be 10 chapters and 5 months till that happens. Lmao. Great chapter hope to read more soon.
