Here’s a big FUCK YOU to the homophobic people living in Singapore and the Singaporean Government who supports the decision to ban foreigners from participating in PinkDot this year. They’ve tried banning foreign corporations from sponsoring the event the previous time but failed miserably with 116 local companies stepping up to support the event in an ironic change of events and so they are trying once again by banning foreigners from participating this time round. Gay rights are human rights, it transcends all national borders.
For foreigners who are reading this, Pink Dot is Singapore’s only gay pride event that could be held.
This piece is a direct response to the recent decision to set up barriers around Hong Lim park, the gathering place. The resemblance to a jail cell is just so uncanny.
Im sick and tired of hearing the same old nonsense from my government that they “protect” all citizens regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, gender etc when in fact they are still holding on to the idiotic penal code 377A that criminalizes sex between men, effectively labeling the gay community as criminals and further enforcing a backward stigma for idiotic people who can’t be bothered to do a simple google search on the topic of homosexuality.
This move clearly shows that the government is targeting us, discriminating us further but we will prevail. We are on the right side of history. For my Singaporean brothers and allies, come down for Pinkdot this year and make yourself heard.
