SG BOY

Haha, was extremely inspired by my recent super hero piece and I figured that it would be really cool to invent a super hero from Singapore! Unlike the very cliche and boring local ones currently drawn that is basically a knock off from Captain America, I've decided to design my own character from scratch. I really hate the idea of using national icons like the Merlion or Lion as I felt that it looks tacky and cliche.

Design:
The spring thing on his belt is basically a reference to the string things we Singaporeans use to wear to protect out wallets from theft. In his costume, that string thing is connected to a Surge-Battery, developed by Singaporean scientists that made his Blink-Strikes possible by serving as a conduit to focus energy.

Character info:
Mixed race (wanted to appeal to all Singaporeans, i'm trying to think of a name, but i'll name him as Sg boy for now). Unlike most Marvel superheroes, Sg Boy speaks full Singlish. haha

Brought up in Singapore, Sg Boy gained his powers whilst being struck by a cosmic surge while trying to save a crashed driver at a F1 race track. 

Despite being a developed nation, modern Singapore falls prey to evil scum that lurks around society, (such as Con Hee and She Ho, the brainwashing duo that steals money from Singaporeans) or threats like terrorism from Jemaah Islamyah and ISIS. Ever since Sg Boy gained his powers, he knew he had to take up the mantle of being the protector of Singapore.

Sg Boy aspires to join the Avengers one day to fight alongside Captain America but he has a long way to go, just like his young nation to prove his worth as a protector of the world.



Powers:

His main ability is the harnessing of 'Surge-Force', the energy that sustains matter all around and releasing this energy in the form of vertical intense beams of energy called 'Blink Strikes'- Think of it more like a large vertical laser. These Blink Strikes could move target locations and fragment into smaller beams that radiate outwards if desired by SG Boy.

I've thought about this power as it really reflects on how Singapore has the tendency to copy things from other countries to use as her own (kinda cheeky)

Apart from Harnessing 'Surge-Force', Sg Boy is also able to transfer 'Surge-Force' from one place to another, giving mechanical allies buffs in energy.

When working in teams (with the Avengers lol), SG Boy fights as a supportive ranged damage dealer, a reference to how Singapore doesn't use brute force but indirect ingenuity to achieve her goals.

Weaknesses:

Since his Blink Strikes come in the form of vertical pillars of energy, it could not penetrate deep into the earth and it could only work if there's no obstruction between the target and the sky. His Blink Strikes could only work outdoors.

Since Sg Boy relies heavily on Surge-Force from matter, he is powerless in a vaccum.

Potential stuff:
I might do more drawings of him if the feedback is good?
maybe a comic strip like Marvel?

If he were a video game character, the Surge-Force resource would be in the form of 5 Stars (SG flag).
