Problems looming

Just thought of sharing what's going on.

Just got a call from HR of my main job. It's in regards to this art that I posted sometime ago of which I was so happy and proud about it. Turns out they're gossiping n spreading my artworks around the officeand instead of feeling happy for me for doing the thing I like, they're being wary that my art contravenes Singapore law for defacing the flag by putting in LGBT colours.

Its likely I'm presented with the decision again whether or not to keep my job. Should I resign, it's likely I have to rely on my Patreon to feed me and to restart doing commissions for clients.

yea i agree

oh nice!

Or you could draw two flags side by side? IMHO, you need to keep the day job especially during the pandemic. US$600 monthly is very little if you want some quality of life. Good luck

I bought the A3 print! Collector's item now!

Glad u see the big picture. No point wasting your energy fighting petty wars that is without a chance of an outcome that works in your favour. Fight only when there’s a good chance of winning.

Yea, im glad I had the clarity of thought as I slept through it last night, this would be the best way as a compromise, because I realized sleeping peacefully every night knowing I have job security is more important than pride over an art piece

Keep the job first. You don’t have to make the first move. And I agree you should just remove the SG flag reference and keep it to just a rainbow

ABEL

I can. I'm drawing about 700 SGD per month from Patreon and it would cover my meals just nicely. Add on some commissions here and there around 600 USD a month? (Assume I do two commissions a month). Short term it's ok. But I need to earn more if I want to move out to my own house and houses here cost a bomb.

I think that you're being wronged, but under Singapore law you probably don't have much of a leg to stand on. I'll bet that your coworkers have downloaded some of the artwork. And of course your employer can just arbitrariy dismiss you for any or no cause. Can you survive on Patreon?

Ok good point

If this art is the problem.. then i suggest that you take this down and replace it with one that is full rainbow without the crescent and the stars...

It's a big company that's backed by the government. And the way they treat things is black and white, regardless whether or not it came from a place of hope and love, they see it as breaking the law. I'm thinking of my earnings on Patreon and how much I should earn via commissions now .

Toastwire

I'm so sorry to hear that as this is one of my favorite pieces from you (and one you should totally be proud of). It's terrible that someone would consider this 'defacing' a flag when it's about unity, support, and love. How can those messages deface anything?!? I can't imagine being put in your position, and I have no advice to give on the specific situation. But I hope for you that whatever happens, you'll end up in a better and happier place down the road. Good luck.
