2023-08-27 19:08:35 +0000 UTCThis movie was my childhood! My siblings and I would watch it all the time, including the second one. It's just so much fun, the action is great and I like that there is a little grittiness to it. The puppeteers, stuntmen and animatronics are top notch but you wouldn't expect anything else from Jim Henson, still to this day they have never looked better. I love the father and son theme, not just from the turtles and Splinter but with Danny and his dad as well. All the turtles have such likable personalities. My favorite has always been Raphael, I think they gave him just a little more depth. What's great too is in the cartoon he and Mikey were very similar but they changed it for the movie and they have kept it this way ever since. I will say one scene that at first glimpse doesn't seem too deep is when Donny is talking to Mikey about Splinter not always being there when he's waiting for the pizza. You could say he's just not paying attention but I have always thought that Mikey was compressing his emotions, like he couldn't even think about it. If you notice it's Mikey who is crying at the fire scene. I love Casey Jones, he's just so cool and funny, again the best portrayal of the character. I also really like April, she's tough and isn't a damsel like she was in the show. I also like since she doesn't wear the yellow jumpsuit since it wouldn't really fit here they have her wear a yellow raincoat. Shredder is such a great villain, not only is a threatening but he also looks so cool and he is just evil. To trick, manipulate and use these young kids who are obviously struggling at home really reflect that, he literally was poisoning them, brainwashing them. As frustrated you are at Danny for selling them out at least he immediately felt bad and does redeem himself at the end. A couple of fun facts, the kid who tells the cop where the hide out is was played by Sam Rockwell who you'd remember from Galaxy Quest, he played Guy. Right before being in this Judith Hoag (April) was in a film with Robin Williams and he was a huge turtles fan and he gave her tips for the character. The stunt men that were in the suits do make appearances, like the pizza guy, the guy in the backseat of the taxi when Raph hits it. And if you pay close attention you can see strings and such from the puppets, lol.
