Might I suggest The Man in The Iron Mask which is based on a story also by Alexandre Dumas who also wrote The Count of Monte Cristo. EDIT: I just saw that you have a reaction to The Man in the Iron Mask, but now you know the story came from the same writer as TCOMC.

2024-07-09 19:32:06 +0000 UTCYou guys mention the similarities to Batman many times. Bruce Wayne was very inspired by Zorro. In many of the flashbacks in many of the versions the Wayne family is leaving a showing of The Mark of Zorro before they are gunned down and Batman is created.

I've been wanting you guys do this one for a while but especially ever since you guys reacted to Puss In Boots because I'm positive that character and film might not even exist without The Mask Of Zorro. I still remember seeing it in the theater and just loving it. I thought everything was done perfectly, from the story, characters, acting, comedy, action, drama, music and there are some very dark scenes that they didn't need to do for a film like this but it makes me love it even more for it. Antonio Banderas was born to play this role, I can't imagine anyone else. Catharine Zeta-Jones was perfect for this role as well, she's always beautiful but she is just stunning in this. And she and Antonio had amazing chemistry, one of those kind that makes you wonder if something was going on behind the camera, lol. Anthony Hopkins always delivers and this performance was no exception but I'm not sure if he even knows how to have a bad performance, lol. I love that he gets to be a badass, I really enjoy the sequence of him breaking out of prison, it's very well done and clever. But my favorite scene from him is when he's talking to Elena in the barn, it is just so tragic and you really feel his heartbreak. The action in this film is so good, it's practical, there's no shaky cam or quick cuts, the stunts with the horses are really impressive. Another element of this film that doesn't get enough praise is the music, it has this really fun charm to it. And the last thing I love that I think is very underrated are the villains, they are just evil and you just can't wait for Alejandro & Don Diego to get their revenge, they don't get mentioned enough. The sequence with the jars is so disturbing. Captain Love is by far the worst though, even more then Rafael, not only does he have heads and hands in jars and drinks out of them but Rafael had to be persuaded by Love to expose all the "evidence." I also thought a really nice touch was naming the baby after his brother at the end. For me the only thing I wish we got was more scenes with Alejandro and Elena and show his inner struggle with being attracted to their enemies daughter. Throughout the film he doesn't know the truth and I thought that could have been interesting. One thing though, this film does have a sequel and I'm telling you, don't bother. It is nowhere near as good as this, it really won't be worth your time. There's some silly things in this like the scenes with him and horse but it's even worse in the sequel, it loses any of the dark tones this one has and becomes more like a Saturday morning cartoon.
