I'm here sharing with you the sketches of the last Zodiacal Sign... Pisces the twelfth artwork made for ZODIACO for the COSMOS Project.
Although it is the last sign of the zodiacal wheel, it was actually the first sign that I sketched years ago (the original sketch you can see in the lower part of the image, just to the extreme left)... at that time, I had illustrated two guys, being one in the foreground, and he had gills, scales and fins…
But, for my artwork, I decided to change some things... mainly their position.
Still, the idea of
representing two guys is clear to me as the morning... after all, it is a sign about two fishes (Pisces in Latin means Fishes, and yes, in the plural).
But... unlike Gemini who are two brothers connected by their intimacy and always talking to each other about what to do... Pisces, are two fishes that did not know each other (nor were born together) but that were enlaced by Aphrodite, so that the Goddess herself and her son Eros could escape from a Titanic Monster, while the fishes guided their way through the ocean...
Because of that, I wanted to represent two different guys with a delicate ribbon around their fists (just as it would also be a ribbon to join the fishes by the tail)... and although they may have their bodies gently supported by each other, their eyes gaze in different horizons.
And this is because of the naturalness with which Pisces connects with the imaginary, with other thoughts, with other lines of reason, without needing linearity or constancy.
Oh, and I wanted to represent their eyes with dilated pupils, almost as if a mixture of pleasure and enchantment with their own dreamlike visions.
By the way, Pisces is a Mutable sign, and so I try here to represent these two guys expressing different gestures and sensations... as if opening up the sense that, things can change, even in a gentle and delicate way…
Ah, and I must admit, I really liked the delicate appearance of the guy I originally illustrated, so here, I come back to represent this thin and soft figure, with long, flowing hair.
But now, the other guy is evidently different, with short hair, fur and a thicker body, albeit soft.
I hope that the sketches of this art can please you my dear.
