#11 Progress Report 2024/11/10

This is the October progress report for "Sister Virodar." This month, I’d like to share updates within the game as well as upcoming plans. You can get the latest version update of the game in this article!

Game Update Content

————————————————————————————————————————————————

This update mainly introduces new features and includes a few bug fixes.

The “Gallery” option in settings is now available, making it easier to view in-game CG scenes.

*This is a basic implementation of viewing functionality; the UI and order still need improvement.

A new scene has been added, but currently, it has no functionality. Now, when leaving Laita’s room, you’ll arrive at this new scene.

From the left side of the new scene, you can return to the old corridor outside Laita’s room, and on the right side, you can enter the random stage gameplay.

Future Update Plans

————————————————————————————————————————————————

As I mentioned in the last article, I’d like to add more large-scale scenes that showcase the environment the protagonist is in, particularly changes in the setting during different level adventures. This new scene is an attempt at that, focusing on the environment of the protagonist’s resting place.

This scene is meant to evoke a simple and serene atmosphere and should have some functionality as the starting place for the protagonist’s actions. In future versions, I plan to add a crop-growing feature and random visitors to this scene.

Planting System

————————————————————————————————————————————————

The planting system won’t be a main part of the gameplay, so I hope to keep it simple. No seeds are required; players can just select a crop when the field is vacant.

When food is scarce, planting can serve as a minimum food supply, and when food is abundant, economic crops can be grown for additional money.

The backyard area on the left side of the scene will serve as a planting area where players can grow some plants. These plants will grow over time and provide food or economic value when harvested. Each time players depart and return, the plants will grow one stage.

I have envisioned three types of crops:

A crop with the shortest planting time, providing a basic amount of food.

A crop with medium planting time, providing more food in the same timeframe.

A crop with a longer planting time, which might not serve as food but has high economic value and can be traded with merchants for money to buy other items.

Players can decide on the planting scheme that offers the best benefit according to their current situation.

Visitor System

————————————————————————————————————————————————

During the adventure, players will meet many NPCs, but I felt that just meeting them in the stages isn’t quite enough interaction.

So, I’d like to have NPCs visit the sister’s cottage outside the stages for more interaction.

The grassy area on the right side of the cottage in the middle part of the scene will have random characters, mainly NPCs, appearing every time the player departs.

Just like the planting system, visitors will refresh randomly each time the player departs and returns. In addition to known NPCs, there might also be nameless ordinary sisters or villagers.

I decided to design the merchant as the first visiting NPC. Sometimes, the merchant will come to the sister’s hideout to visit and trade, making it easy to trade items with her.

This month, my main focus has been on scene design and game framework planning, so I apologize for the lack of progress in pixel animations. I also want to create more exciting adult scenes, but other parts of the game also require attention. I’ll do my best to speed up the progress.

Next, I’ll prioritize drawing the merchant’s animation and completing the visitor system. Also, the game’s world map and the running zombie sister animation are parts I want to finish as soon as possible.

Finally

————————————————————————————————————————————————

I want to thank everyone again for your continuous support and feedback.

If you have any questions or suggestions about this update plan, please feel free to let me know!

This update is also free, and you can get the latest version of the game from the link below!

Thank you so much for sharing so much with me! Let's use English to communicate from now on. The examples you mentioned from other projects are great, and I understand your point. I support your idea that gameplay should take priority over adult content. I believe that when adult content uses games as a medium, if it lacks engaging interactivity, it struggles to showcase any advantages over traditional adult videos. That said, I’d like to bring up another perspective regarding SiNiSister. For me, what made it stand out wasn’t just its mechanics or gameplay, but the immersion it created. I still remember when I played the demo for the first time. I let the protagonist get defeated by zombies, and to my surprise, the ensuing scene wasn’t a typical adult sequence. Instead, it depicted zombies tearing apart a human, staying true to the narrative. This kind of design runs throughout the entire game. The enemies behave in ways that reflect their own nature, deciding their attacks and finishing moves accordingly. This not only adds a visceral sensory experience but also grants the game an unparalleled level of immersion. The game’s environments also contribute heavily to this immersion. Beyond its stunning art, there are many story-driven details within the scenes. For instance, in the cathedral, you can see other sisters who have been turned into statues. Not only does this foreshadow the upcoming enemies and their attack patterns, but it also reveals the fate of those nuns. These kinds of details greatly enhance the immersive experience. I hope to achieve something similar in my own game. I really appreciate your excitement about my project, and your suggestions have helped me clarify some of my thoughts. I intend for my game to primarily be an action game. However, due to my limited skills, I feel that the action aspect may not be as engaging as I’d like. As such, I plan to include some management elements to add more depth, though I’ll try to ensure they don’t overshadow the main gameplay. So far, the character animations, environment art, UI, sound effects, and so on still need to be refined and expanded. I’ll do my best to make future updates less monotonous for you. Thank you also for pointing out the potential issues with platforms like Patreon. If there are any changes to where I release my content, I’ll make sure to announce it on Twitter. Lastly, thank you for your support! Game development isn’t my main profession, and I have very little experience in it. The fact that you’ve taken the time to write such detailed feedback is incredibly encouraging. I’ll keep your suggestions in mind as I work on future updates!

I just joined this one. I back another project, here, but i noticed it focused entirely too much on making animations before making the game. While that will help gather more money faster, it'll make it harder to make the game. Right now that other game is experiencing balance issues and strange bugs. On the flip side, it's got lots of interesting animations and loads of subscribers. I'm not 100% sure, but i think that project is just as old as this one. Too many adult games fail to balance gameplay with adult content. SiNiSister, for example, has little content, or samish content with a very strong リョナ focus. Most of it's adult content was unappealing to me, but as a game it was incredibly fun, and I wished for more from that game, just because the gameplay was good (which helped when it expanded to have an all ages version on steam). On the flip side, some games are all adult content, and almost no game, making them hard to play or entirely too short and just un-fun (either too difficult or too easy, because there isn't enough gaming content to balance) where most people just end up focusing on the gallary instead. Just a warning, I heard from another dev that at one point Patreon threatened them over "rape scenes" in their game. If for some reason you move strictly to Ci-en or something like that, please find some way to notify us before your account gets locked or something. While I myself am not a リョナ fan, i do feel that these kinds of policies, if they do exist, can stifle creators from making the content we really want. Please do not let services like Patreon deter you. I don't mean to be completely negative, though, that's just my personality. In return, though, your game is already fairing to be the most interesting, because it feels like it's still in its infancy, and thus it has the most potential to become something great. I don't think you need to apologize for the lack of animations and such, when you're trying to make the game into a game instead of a gallery with an optional game. I (and I imagine most people, since it's what we're used to) trust the animations will come in the future, once you have a solid enough engine and setting to put animations in. So far, the combat system seems simple, you want to add some features like farming and such, but it's not an SLG, so i'm not sure where you're going with it. You seem to have a long-term vision of this in your head, but i'm not sure what it is yet.

感谢您的提醒!等到游戏要上架steam的那一天,我会好好研究一下的!

如果在steam发售的话希望作者能加一个成人补丁,否则有很大概率会锁区
